My name is Jill and I live in Florence.  I have been seeing Dr. Sonnanstine since the end of September. He is one of the greatest doctors I have ever met.  Yesterday I gor approval for my LapBand and scheduled my surgery.  Jan 28, just 12 days away.  I cant even believe it is going to happen that quick.  I am kind of new to OH, and also to the message boards.  I will take all the advice I can get.   Jill

you guys are to funny...congrats on all these dates, soooo exciting!!! I was with Dr. Sonnanstine and one of the patients on Monday..he was just so awesome with the families that other people in the OR waiting room ( other surgeons families)..were making comments about him.  He is an incredible surgeon with a great beside manner and cares very much about how his patients and families are taken care of that day.   He is a McDreamy for sure but I think he prefer that not be brought up..lol I know I have some of you here that request I be present the day of your surgery, when you get your dates please let me know so I can make plans and let him know .. good luck to all of you..hopefully I will see you around..don't forget next Tues. is a support group meeting..Dr. Lisa West-Smith will be the speaker, she always does a great job. hopefully I will be attending soon as I have a lot to talk about with the May event coming up..I hope you all plan to be there!!!! Hi Jill, welcome to the KY board !!  Congrat on your approval.. Today Dr. Sonnanstine uses the "realize band"..it is gastric banding..but this one is the new Ethicon band.  Unless a special request is made for the lapband, though not sure why anyone would. I am so excited for you..my husband is going through the process for the band and I couldn't be more excited.  I attended his classes at the center and of course I  have attended all of the video classes with Dr. Sonnanstine  for the last 3 yrs (though because of schedule changes and some confusion I missed Nov.).. I wish you all the luck and if you have any questions, please give me a shout!!!! Brenda

Thanks so much for the support.  I just went in to see Beth for a few last minute questions, and found out I have gained 7 pounds since I started the program in August.  That really sucks.  Can I get your opinion on something.  Lots of people on here have said they did some kind of liquid diet the last 5-7 days before surgery.  I think I need to do something to get used to the liquid diet.  The is really the onlt thing I am worried about.  Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Jill

Hi Jill..many surgeons require a liquid diet before surgery-some have their patient do a high protein diet  ..as dieting and losing quickly does prove to shrink the liver.   Since the stomach actually sits directly under the liver, it us pulled up and out of the way by an instrument during surgery. ( I know you have seen this in the video) Dr. Sonnanstine rarely requires a diet before surgery so I wouldn't really worry if Beth or the doc didn't suggest it.  The liquid diet post op is not for the same reason.  You will have soreness and swelling, to keep from getting sick you will be on a liquid diet..af first you could care less and you aren't really feeling all like eating..but that feeling will go away as you advance to diffierent stages.  Trust Dr. Sonnanstine and Beth, they won't lead you wrong. Relax and take it easy..you will do great. Brenda
