Oh my goodness I was approved for surgery today!  I can not believe it!  They will be calling next week to set a date.  Now I am freaking out!  Anybody have a checklist of things needed before surgery or recommendations on things to have?  I am so excited and scared!

Add me to the January 8th approval date list.  I was approved today too.

 Congratulations.

Here's a list I found somewhere.  I hope it helps.

  • Lip balm / chap stick…for the dry lips when you can’t have ice chips
  • Baby wipes or antibacterial wipes to freshen up
  • Trial size baby lotion or favorite lotion
  • Small shampoo and conditioner
  • Brush, hair ties
  • Toothbrush and paste …the hospital provides some but it tastes horrible
  • Deodorant
  • Insurance card and living will or health care proxy, medication list
  • Your own pillow w/colored case (this will be handy for the ride home too)
  • Loose clothes to wear home and a good pair of non slip sole slip on shoes…you will hate to bend over to put on shoes
  • Camera in case you want to document the journey …this is an optional item
  • Phone numbers in case you want to call family/friends
  • Sanitary napkins (a lot of women will start their cycle right after surgery)
  • Eye covering (if light bothers you), earplugs (if noise bothers you)
  • Pictures of family or loved ones…This is an optional item
  • Small fan …this is an optional item
  • Get some type of long wooden spoon or something you can wrap toilet tissue around. If that doesn't work, get a family member to help wipe.
  • A robe and house shoes to walk in the hall after surgery
  • Some reading material like magazines…you won’t get through a book with all the drugs they have you on.
  • CPAP machine (if Dr. requires it)
  • Albuterol rescue inhaler

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Psalms 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God James 1:17  Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights....

 to God be the Glory!

Hey Nicole and BossLady, congrats on getting your approval. I got my approval just about this time last year. As for the list... I didn't use half the things I took with me.Let see, Zune mp3, my laptop, crocs/slippers and a bunch of other things. being a guy I had no need for fem. hygiene products. Due to some minor complications after surgery; I never got a chance to use my toys. As for the chapstick, I brought some with me; but St. Lukes has some that works well and tastes pretty good too. when I was able to get a shower on Fri it felt ok. but when I took a shower on Saturday it felt even better, I think because I was coming off the pain meds. The best thing I had at the hospital was my mom. She watched over me while I was too drugged up to care.++++++ here's one of the reasons I think you two ladies have picked the right Dr. during my troubles Dr. Tom was in my room 5-10 times a day, well it seems that way. He took the time to explain all that was going on with me to my mom so that she stayed calm. My surgery was at 8am monday feb 12th 2007 I got home from surgery Sat feb 17th around 1pm, so I was in a bit longer than just about all his patients. just call me special.!

Hey Ryan, I thought the best thing about you being in the hospital was MY visits!!!  lol your mom was awesome and definately watched over you..you are right Dr. Sonnansitne was in your room several times a day, when he is there it's almost like a visit from a friend...I remember him explaining things to you and then smiling and talking to the group in the room.. I  have to say he is pretty awesome as I have been involved with him as a patient advocate for over 3 yrs. now...I can promise you he pays attention to his patients and families when they speak.. so how is mom anyway?  how are you? when we gonna get together?...I talked to Chris last night about having a dinner out or luncheon..lets do it!
