I have my first appt  for RNY tomorrow morning at KDMC. They said I will be having the dietary consult and psych evaluation. I was just wondering what kind of questions they ask. Thinks,  Gina

If it's anything like mine, all they really want to know is that you have a realistic idea of what to expect from surgery. You know, like how much you'll actually lose, how much work you'll still have to put into it, etc. Mine took less than 20 minutes and that included the fact that we had a HUGE communication barrier (I understood what he was asking but he wouldn't shut up and stop interrupting me enough to let me finish - grrrr!). He still gave me the go-ahead

If I remember correctly maybe 30 or so questions, could be a little more or less. It has been over a year and a half for me so I am a little fuzzy. It seemed to me that they were wanting to know that I had  real expectations for surgery and that I understood the risks. None of the questions are hard. I got the feeling from some of the questions and how they were asked, that the intent was to see if in certain situations if I would put blame on others for my actions. Maybe it was just my take on them.  I just took my time and thought about what they were asking and answered honestly. At the end of the interview she told me That she thought I had a good grasp of the situation and didn't see any reason why I shouldn't have surgery. I had Lisa for my Psych eval. she is a really nice person. All the people there have been really good to me.  Angie was my Nut, again a very nice person. She will give you take aways that will tell you what lies ahead and what is expected of you.  I had to do a six month pre-cert for my insurance, I had to see a doctor, ( my PCP), and a Nut every month for six month for a supervised diet. I could have went to another Nut. but I chose to see her because I figured she would know what the insurance co. was looking for.  They will tell you that you have to go on a low fat diet prior to surgery. I followed it to the letter. It is to shrink your liver. My surgery only took 55 minutes. Dr. Wheeler said it was because I followed the diet and it made his job easier.  Good luck, pan head
