ky medicaid
I was just wondering if anyone here has had the lap band with Ky medicaid. Dr Sonnanstine has already said I would be approved but I am wondering about the possibility of having the surgery before the 6 mo period. The dr's office is scheduling me back to back for all of my pre op testing but I just started the process at the end of August. So I hope somebody can help me out here, I just don't understand why they are rushing me through all of these tests if I have to wait 6 mo.Thanks, Stacey
They're probably not "rushing" you through the testing, but just following their own time line of how they handle their cases. I am almost positive you'll have to go through the 6 month weight loss pre-op diet before you'll get approved.
Chances are the clinic where you're going is getting you all set for the surgery when the approval does come in.
Hang in there and try not to fret and feel safe knowing the surgery clinic is taking care of you fully.
Good luck--
Dee
P.S. I do not know of any case where someone was able to be approved on medicaid and not have gone through the 6 month pre-op diet. I could be wrong though and perhaps someone can come and correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Stacey,
You can always give the office a call and talk to them about it. I don't have a clue how it works with Medicaid but my guess would be just as Dee said...they're following the procedures of the office that they use for all patients, it's not that they're trying to rush you through the program.
To me, it would be better to have all of the tests and classes completed and just need to be waiting to complete the 6 month period rather than wait to complete the tests and classes and then feel like you're rushing to fit them in at the last minute. But that's just me!

Hi, since I first posted the original message I have finished all of group meetings and all of my test that are required for medicaid. But anyway because I am diabetic and have been for a long time I see my pcp on a regular 3 month basis and he has always documented where I have tried to lose weight with no success so because of this I don't have to wait the 6 months. I am just waiting for the letter of approval which Dr. Sonnanstine has said is just formality because they will cover the procedure due to my health problems. Hope this helps. Stacey
