is anyone else out there having trouble going to the bathroom?  I am 8 months out and can't tell you how long its been since i have had a bm.  I have lost almost 100 lbs. and am very satisfied with the surgery, but i had to go the my family dr. and he put me on some meds. that will help with the constipation, i haven't seen or talked to anyone who has had the problem.  (maybe no one wants to admit it)  i just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem?

I'm 7 1/2 months out and I still have that problem. My doctors in Nashville told me to still take 1 to 2 colace pills a day. I go about every 3 days and even then I push and pu****'s not pretty. I keep hoping that it will get better, but I think I'm just wishful thinking.  I'm fixing to go on iron pills which will only make this worse, so I'm not looking forward to that. But no your not alone. Charlotte

Been there done that, I added some veggies and that helped. I eat a small salad or two every day. Plus I added one oz of almonds as a snack also. Make sure you are getting plenty of water as well. By small I mean like a cup. I put a small spoonful of olives, onions, green peppers and banana peppers in it. The little bit of fiber seems to do the trick. pan head

That poo problem comes and goes for me...If I add some fiber to my diet, I seem to do better, but every now and then, it seems like it take 3 days to be able to actually go.  Regular for me is only every 4-7 days, now.  And sometimes it gets to be just the opposite...I go too much, which usually happens around "that" Certain time of the month.  I have used colace, wal-mart brand, from time to time, and it works well, have also used a fleets glycerin suppository when I was just so uncomfortable I couldn't bear it any longer. I am 6 1/2 months out and have only had to use the suppositories twice, but it helped. Fiber is the way to go, though, I have learned. I cannot tolerate lettuce, so salads are out of the question for me...oatmeal or cream of wheat for breakfast is what I usually have.  I had the same surgeon as you... and have lost 117 lbs so far since 3-1-07. Good luck with everything and keep up the good work!!

I only wish that could be a problem for me. hmmmm maybe my work is a laxative. because when i'm there about twice a night, every night. then once or twice on my days off. The only thing I can think of is that I get close to 150 ozs a day of liquids, be i****er, iced tea or crystal light.ummm speaking of..... maybe I better get thinking about it.

Hello,  I have not yet had the surgery but have had IBS most of my life and have found that two colace a day along with a daily dose of Miralax (available over the counter w/out a prescription) daily works for me.  Talk to your Dr. about Miralax.  The directions read as if it is only for short term use but my GI Specialist and PCP both told me to take it daily for the rest of my life.  My guess is most WLS patients have some problems along these lines with less fiber and fluid intake.  I know how miserable this can be.  GOOD LUCK!

I have yet to experience this problem.... but what about Prune Juice or eating Prunes, fresh fruits... or Fleets Enema's.... I have always been told that not having a bowel movement for more than 3 days isn't good for the body.... I do understand that our bodies are different after surgery... (limited amounts of food and Protein like crazy)....but somehow....  you gotta get that fiber in you from somewhere....  I dont no about this one.... might have to ask your doctor..... but what about a Good Colon Cleanse....it will definately do the body some good....(some doctors will agree and some want) Look up on the web about colon cleansing and it's benefits.... It might be worth the try....  I hope things get better for you and all who are having problems in that area.... it's not a good feeling at all....
