I start my mornings out (7:00am) with a protein shake. I sip on it for at least 1 hour and still only get 1/2 down. Then I start on my water. I sip on 20oz. from 8-10. I usually get down 8oz. Then it is time for protein pudding or shake. I can get one of those small cups of puddings with a scoop of protein added in with in 1 hour. Then it is back to water again. I sip from 11-1, usually get in 4 oz. Then I eat 2 popcycles which takes about an hour. By now I feel so full and uncomfortable. I then drink 1/2 of a protein bullet or should I say gag it down. Then I sip on water and get about 4 oz down before I feel like I am going to My blood work came back really badly. I do take all my vit. and please dont tell me I am not trying to get the water in. I am. I am scared and do not feel very well. My iron, vit K, calcium, Vit D, B1, blood count are all very low. They are talking blood transfusion, iron infusion, and IV to hydrate. Please help me. What do I need to do? I have added extra Vit. but dont know what else to do. I am so tired and just do not feel well at all. I am on full liquids and can have broth, cream soups, fudge and popcycles, plain yogurt, jello and pudding. Thank you

I would never say you aren't trying....I know you're doing your best.  The first month is the hardest part of this whole experience.   I had a lot of trouble too getting in the water and protein, although I didn't have the issues with the bad labs.   That's got to be wearing you down even more physically.   Are you drinking cold liquids?  I still have trouble with cold stuff and just can't drink as much.    I do better with room temperature or hot liquids and can get more in at one sitting.  That might be worth a try.  I don't know that I have any good advice for you other than to hang in there.  Have you called Dr. Weiss' office to see if they can give you any suggestions on what to do?  Maybe talk to the nutritionist or nurse to see if they can help?

Called my Doc & I have to go in. They said  I might need IV  therapy. I usually Hate even the thought of an IV but right now I just want to feel better. Say a prayer for me please. I don't have anybody to take me so I am going to drive myself. I could call my DH but he has already missed too much work.

I am finally back. My Dr. wanted to admit me over night in order to give me an IV and check my vit. levels. I had to promise to drink 1 oz every 15min. I take the bariatric advantage multi formula, iron, B1, and calcium. I now take the iron 3x per day. I also take a chewable vit. c now. They gave me some medicine called raglin and told me to start taking the pain medicine again. Also said I am doing too much. I love my grands with all my heart but on days like this I really wish their parents would get their act together at least long enough to help us out. I have to bath them, get them ready for school and day care, and keep everything extra clean. When they get home they need attention and I am the only one home to give it. I will be so happy when I get my energy back. Thank you all so much for your advice and support. Becky, so glad to hear from you. Love & God bless---Gerri

You are definitely in my prayers.  It's good that they had you come in so they can get you straightened out as soon as possible.  I know it seems almost impossible right now to get the fluids in....especially considering all that you are doing with the grandkids....but your health right now is more important than anything else.  If you get sick...you can't take care of those kids....so take care of yourself.   I'll be thinking about you.  Please let me know how you're doing.  Anytime you need someone to talk to...I'm here.   If you want, I can send you a private message with my phone number.

Take care...

Hey Gerri...I too had RNY at GCH...just wanted to let you know that the first 30 days or so are the toughest, but I promise...it does get better. I also have a situation where I had a little one to take care of and really didn't feel like doing anything. You have to rely on any help you can get those first few weeks, so if there are family, friends or anyone that will help out with them, you HAVE to utilize that. I know that the protein bullets are nasty sometimes. I froze them in little plastic containers and ate them like popsicles. It was the only thing I could get in cold...I think it was the fact that I knew that I was getting so much protein at one time that motivated me to choke them down...but that won't last forever...This too shall pass...I promise...you have to concentrate on the vitamins...I take the Centrum Complete Chewable...I think they tasted better than the Bariatric Advantage and the chewable vitamin C helped out a lot. I am also on Reglin and I am 6 1/2 months out...but it helps...keep trying to take it...you are doing better than you are giving yourself credit for...it is rough those first few weeks...Hang in there! If there is anything I can do to support you, you can e-mail me directly at [email protected] I have to go in tomorrow to GCH for a HIDA Scan for my gallbladder...I am having difficulty with it. Best of luck! You will be in my prayers!

I went through this too... I think a lot of post-ops do. It will get better, my advce is just to let the doctors handle it however they choose, and try your best. It sounds like you are doing your best, but just keep in mind that in 2 months, you'll be a pro and you'll be drinking/eating like the rest of us. Keep at it and you will be rewarded!
