Ok I have 5 more days left. I cant believe I am saying that. I thought I would never get this close. So I have even more questions. I guess its just nerves. I am so concerned about the my first week home. Is it just soups? I know Dr. Shina really pushes soups, so do I drain chicken noodle soup or eat tomato soup? Any advice would be great. Aug 20th is the BIG day. ohhhhh Im getting a little nervous, not because of the surgery but afterwards. All the advice is welcome.  Thanks Cindy

Hello Cindy, we are having surgery on the same day! What time is your surgery? My mind is going 100 miles per hour also. I know you will get the answers you need on this site. I was told soups like tomato, chicken broth, beef broth, chicken noodle (only the broth until next stage) and protein drinks. I am so happy for you and proud of you for making the choice to live a healthier life. God will see us through! Love & God bless----Gerri

Cindy, Congratulations on your surgery. You're going to do fine; I've heard good things about Dr. Shina. The first week of my surgery, I drank a lot of Proti-diet Hot chocolate. I also bought me some Unjury unflavored protein and mixed it in soups for extra protein. I didn't eat any tomato soup, because (Becky's right) of the sugar content. I was too afraid I'd dump. I had purchased from my surgery center (you can get these online) protein soups in different flavors. I bought tons of jello, but after surgery I've yet to develop a taste for it, even though I loved it before. (taste buds will change) I stayed on liquids for 2 weeks and then went to pureed foods. Still, I kept mostly to liquids even with the ok, just because the hot liquids felt so nice on my pouch. Good luck and please email me if you have any further questions-- Dee

Hey Cynthia! You're pretty close to me. I'm from Somerset (live in Corbin now). I'll be thinking of you when you have your surgery! As for the soups, I would recommend finding a couple varieties (or 3) that you like. Chicken noodle is good, but you'll probably want to strain it so that you don't have to worry about the noodles & chicken. You won't be eating solids for a few weeks, more than likely. If soups like that don't go down very well for you, try basic broth. It never hurts to keep some of that on-hand. It's pretty much a "safe" food for most people. And after you're okay'ed to start eating thick liquids, Campbell's Premium soups in the gold & maroon boxes are really good. There's several flavors. Again, strain them to start with if that's what the doctor orders. Keep us posted on how things go!
