Hi, Jennifer.  I had my lapband surgery at Georgetown, and I think it's a wonderful place!  The doctors are great, the office staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and the facilities are designed to meet the patients' needs. I found the informational meetings to be excellent.  One thing Georgetown stresses is education.  They really want to make sure patients are informed and know exactly what they're getting into. Good luck with your decision.  If you choose Georgetown, I think you'll be very happy.

Kathy, I am going to Georgetown for my pre-op work on September 11th.  I am going for the Lapband.  Just wanted to know your thoughts since you have had yours a year. Thanks, Jana

Jana, Congratulations on your upcoming suregery.  You'll set the date at that second all-day appointment, and it should be within a few weeks. I've had a very positive experience with my lapband.  I have lost very slowly but regularly, and I have averaged about a pound a week.  But I really haven't dieted, per se.  I've just been restricted in the amount I can eat, and I love that! It took 8 fills over 7 months for me to finally get proper restriction.  That was a long wait (and somewhat frustrating to have a band that wasn't working yet), but once I got restriction, I kept it and didn't need another fill for 5 months.  I can eat pretty much anything, but I have to be very careful to take tiny bites and to chew EXTREMELY well.  I drink 16-20 ounces of water shortly before I eat, and then I don't drink again for 60-90 minutes afterwards.  I always eat my protein first (10-15 bites, maybe) and then have another 10-15 bites of veggies, fruits, and carbs.  I don't get hungry for 4-5 hours after most meals.  I still often WANT to eat, just because I think I should be hungry, but I have very little actual physical hunger because my meals and snacks allow me to eat about 4 hours apart. You can read through my profile if you want and see if it answers any of your questions -- or brings up new ones.  I'm glad to tell you everything I've been through.  I feel very fortunate not to have had any problems at all.  I do get stuck and/or slime occasionally, but all in all my experience has been wonderful. Best wishes for an easy surgery and recovery and a great relationship with your band. Kathy

I went to St. Joes East, but I've heard great things about Georgetown. (It was actually my first choice, but once I met my doc, I was sold on SJE) Be sure to write down some questions you have and ask them at the question and answer part of the seminar. I'm not familiar with the sleeve surgery; I had the proxi-rny. Good luck to you-- Dee

Well I went ot the Seminar and was nervous as a cat! I am not sure why but I was.. But after I got there and got seated I was much better and kinda felt MORE informed as most of the people there. I work for State Gov and they told me about the 6 month diet plan and started with that with my family doctor.  I was really bummed about this but I felt that it gives me more time ti get all most tests  that  I want to have done before the surgery. I hve asked to have a ekco on my heart and a sleep study done. So now waiting on that paperwork to come and get filled out. All my paperwork for my insurance has been filled out and their paperwork. Gotta send that in too! So all in all I think it gives me a little more time to get myself ready as well.. I had a dream today when I took a nap of me working out at a gym and a guy hit on me and asked me out and we started dating.. Then I woke up! I know this is strange to dream like this, but I woke up happy and not happy.. That is one thing I want really bad is a boyfriend and I hope that next year is a new year for me... I need to blog! lol mini hugs Jennifer My insurance would not cover vertal sleeve they told me in the seminar...
