OT Hysterecotmy scheduled
Hi Guys, I have FINALLY got my hysterectomy scheduled. It is all set for Sept 24th unless they have a cancellation. I am so glad to finally have all this come to a close! I used to think women who complained about having their periods were just wimpy, or whiny. Let me tell you..NOT ANYMORE!! This has been a ordeal! I never dreamed that periods and cramps could be so horrible. Any advice from anyone who has had one? Doc said I would be in the hospital one to two nights. Anything in particular I should take with me? Any advice for me? I would appreciate any additional insight!
I had one in 2005. I was 35 years old and wish someone had told me how I would feel afterwards. I must say that I was in an incredible amount of pain afterwards. I slept in a recliner for almost a month. I was pretty crabby. Talk about INSTANT menopause. I battled with depression and lots of "I am less of a woman" feelings. Over all I was glad that the pain from periods were gone but was not ready emotionally for the ride that menopause had to offer. Sooooo..........
I want to tell you that taking your best friend or your mother to the hospital and talking with them about the way that you feel and see yourself will help a lot. Sleep as much as you can afterwards because you will heal faster. When you start feeling human again... Get all dolled up and go strut your stuff..... Makes you feel like a real woman again. ( Hubby or man in your life will enjoy this too)
Take care,
Katherine
I had my hysterectomy on april 18th this year. I dont miss my period at all!!! I am thrilled to not be bleeding to death every month. The pain was a bit more than expected but not horrible. I will admit the morphine was my friend the first day or so. As far as bringing things... I would say crystal light in a flavor you like just in case they dont have it at the hosp you will be at ... or anything really that you like to drink. um.... Its 3:50am and im at work so my brain is fried at the moment... if you have any questions feel free to email me.

Hi,
I had a hysterectomy 5yrs ago when I was 32yrs old. Do I regret it? No, not at all. I did end up with a DVT(blood clot) from my left hip to left knee as a result of the surgery though. It took 8 mos of being on blood thinners for it to clear up. Just make sure you know the symptoms of a DVT and walk around as much as possible to help avoid them. Good luck to you.

I had one in 2001. Best thing I've ever done! the pain wasn't all that bad. My arm hurt worse than the incision, from pulling my formerly morbidly obese body up off of the couch!
My only advice would be ---- get plenty of rest afterwards. When I got tired and needed a nap, I needed a nap NOW. I didn't get over needing naps for about 2 months.
Slowly but surely, that went away.
Wear loose fitting clothes to the hospital, and have your husband or whoever pick you up in a vehicle that is easy to get in and out of. Take your pain meds and rest.
I had one in 2001. Besides divorcing my ex husband, BEST thing I ever done.
I was 38 and I had horrible periods, and pms. Found out I had endometroisis. I had to be cut in my c section incisions, so my paind was bad. But no worse Im sure then what you had with the RNY. I have never had any regret. I have felt better, never felt less of a woman. HOT FLASHES. Now thats another story, but I went for almost 4 years with out any hot flashes or having to take hormones. I was on Zoloft and my doctor told me that kept my hormones at bay. And it really did. Good luck with your surgery, if you can handle the gastric you can handle the hysterectomy. God Bless.

First off, Dee you look GREAT! So glad your doing well!
Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful information! I truly appreciate it. I don't think I will have any of the "less than a woman feelings". I am just to happy that the bleeding is going to stop
I AM worried about the hormone aspect of it. He said he was going to try to leave one of my ovaries, so this should help. He also said he is going to try to do it Lap same places I had my bypass, so thats good. I have 3 weeks scheduled off work. Should I do 4 to be safe?
