I am going to the 7/31 meeting - look for me - I am hoping for the lapRNY - go to the RNY message board for more info - hope to see you there
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I thought I had a link you could read about it but now I cant find it.  Sorry. I do know with the medical card you will have to have a medically supervised 6 month weight loss attempt, a bmi of 35 with comorbids or a bmi of 40 and above without them.  I heard this at a seminar and also read it on here.(dont quote me on it though, just tryin to help) Also, I think the only surgeons that accept the medical cards will be in louisville and lex. I dont have the medical card as primary so I am not much help.   Try the main board and the insurance one.  I am sure u will find others on there that have one. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, i was told by my pcp that it required 6 months of physicians medical records , but not the stuff about him putting me on a diet my current BMI is 46 and i have hypertension, joint pain and back problems, breathing problems, i've tried diets but nothing works long term and it always comes back and then some. im supposed to go to a seminar in louisville on tues.the31st and see a dr shina for a consult on the same day.His secretary kinda scared me she said that i may want a gastric bypass, i only wanted a lapband because of the least complications, can anyone advise me on which i should have which would be better i have researched the results of both and they appear about the same but with the lapband there are less complications and less recovery time.Anyhow Thanks so much for the info if you have anything else that might be useful please let me know

I was a patient of Dr Shina's for a lil while.  He will do the lap band but is not a fan of it.  Just like I went to another seminar the other night and the other surgeon I met seemed to be a bigger fan of the lap band. The only part that worried me was that I heard several there afterwards say that wanted the lapband because they felt that it was easier. Everyone has their own reasons for which surgery they choose.  Dont let someone tell u one is better then the other.  It is a personal choice.  Myself, I am going to have the gastric bypass because I feel that it is best for Me.  Research is a hugeeee key.  Learn everything u can. The 6 month supervised diet is where you pick some kind of diet...  You follow it and go to ur pcp EVERY month(dont skip)  for 6 months for weigh in's and to talk over the diet, excercise plan u are following etc. When u go to the seminar/consult with Dr Shina you will be told what all u need next but if I were u i would get into ur pcp asap to start the medically supervised diet.... There is alot of info on this site and people that will help when they can.  If u ever need anything just holler.

Yeah I know, I had read about that too...  Did hear medicaid has to have 6 months of medically supervised diet though.  Guess Medicare got luckier on that part for now...
