KyHealth Card (Medical Card-Medicaid)
I am wanting to hear from the people on here who have KyHealth Card (Medical Card-Medicaid) "PassPort" as their insurance and are pursuing the surgery or have had it, I would like to know what steps you had to go thru and what you were required too do before you could have your surgery done? Last month I got my referral from my family doctor "my pcp" all my medical records and 2 letters from other doctors I see also recomending me for the surgery, I got my packet of info sent to me from Doctor Shina's office too fill out and hand in to them on the day I attended the seminar "June12, 07", which I have done so far. While there I was told since KyHealth Card (Medical Card-Medicaid) was my insurance they will require a 3 month doctor supervised diet before my surgery if approved. Ok I went the day after and saw my family doctor got all that set up and also had my blood work drawn that Dr. Shina requires I guess. This is all I have done so far and I guess the rest is just a waiting game now for the phone call of approvement. Anyhow like I stated before if any of you are in the same boat as me right now or have been there before I'd like to hear from you too see what you have to say and hear what you have experienced! Thanx

Well you might wanna check with your doctors again, I have Ky medicaid, and I had to do 6 months of medical weight loss, and it has to be CONSECUTIVE, so be sure not to miss any of your appointments...that and they require you to go to a lung or heart specialist. But I have the same insurance and it is 6 months.... Hope this helps.

I am going through the process now... I do have KYHealthCard and for them to cover the WLS Surgery.... you Must have been on a 6 month Physician's Supervised Weightloss Program within the year (basically under a doctor's care) and along with other tests (echo, stress test, lung test, blood work, sleep apnea test, etc) that your WLS doctor requests.
My 6 mo. Supervised Weightloss will be up this Aug. 07 (whew) and then thats when Norton Bariatric Office (Dr. Jorge Rodrigues Lou, Ky) will submit All my information to the health insurance. Sooo.... the waiting and anticipating really begins on whether I will be approved or not.... So Yessss... it is somewhat of a long process.... I hope this helps....
