Ok, I am wanting the lapband surgery(is that what everone here had?), and they band your stomach to hold less, well, what about the rest of your stomach, it isn't full of food, so how come you don't feel hunger? Or am I interpeting this wrong?

Hi Donna The people on this board have had RNY and Lap Band. Some are just learning about surgery, like you. There is alot of information on the Lap Band board as well. I had the band surgery on 11/20. Everyone is different. I had very little to no restriction after surgery. The first 2 weeks was tough because I was hungry on the full liquid diet. I felt better after I was advanced to pureed foods. I got my first fill 1 month after surgery. I still do not have much restriction but I am learning how to eat with my band. You do still have your larger stomach in tact. The band just creates a smaller pouch in the upper part of your stomach. What the band does is creates a funnel effect so that food stays in the pouch longer and slowly empties into your larger stomach. This takes time, making you feel fuller longer and allowing you to eat smaller portions. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Just send me a message. Again, the Lap band forum is good...but very busy. You can also research other people's profiles that have had Lap Band. I still do that just to see what is ahead of me. Besides, it offers some inspiration for those that are successful with this tool. Welcome to our world!!

RNY is the gastric bypass surgery...Lap Band doesn't alter the stomach but places a band around the upper portion that creates a pouch. I would really research these surgeries to find the one that you feel is right for you. From the home page of this website, there is a section titled "Learn". There are bulleted items that you can learn from. One of them is "Weight Loss Surgery". There are many advantages and disadvantages of each kind of surgery available. I would really look at each one of the bulleted items. Then, it may be helpful to visit the different forums and browse people's profiles. There are also many many books that you can find at your local library or store. The best advice anyone here will give you is to do your research!!!
