Last Thursday night my 5 yr old daughter Allison started complaining about a sore throat. She woke up Friday with a low grade temp and I couldn't get her in to see our dr that day so I took her thru the fast trac (fast trac my butt we were there 6 hours waiting) thru our local ER. They did a strep test and a flu test. Both were negative. They said she might have a viral infection and to give her tylenol and a decongestant. She seemed to be doing some better Sat and yesterday was ok. But last night her eyes started watering, her nose is now constantly dripping out clear stuff and her fever is back. I'm still rotating the tylenol and motrin for that. Its not gotten above 101. I'm thinking about sending Adam to Walgreens, thats the only thing open around here, for some thing else. What are some good childrens cold medications? I've got Robitussin DM but its not helping. She started coughing thru the night also. So I'm pretty much open to suggestions here. I hate for my baby to be sick on Christmas. Thanks Ange Merry Christmas everyone!

Thanks Vickie, Adams gone to Walgreens now being as that is the only thing open, lol. He has a list of her symptoms I wrote out for him, I'm a paranoid momma. I want the pharamcist to know whats going on so he can suggest something that might help. Santa brought her one of those V Smile game machines and a few games this morning and she feels good enough to play on that now. Her poor little eyes and nose are just running constantly. Merry Christmas and thanks!

sorry to hear you got a sick kiddie at christmas time. If she was coughing I would suggest a hot toddy to help her sleep. Something like the sudafed should help out. Have you tried a steam treatment to try and help break up the congestion. A humidifier/vaporizer helps a lot. My cpap machine has a heated humidifier and when i use it, I no longer have all the sinus problems I use to have. hope she gets better.

She is slowly getting better. She still has a cough and some snottiness. I'm getting it now so I ran out and got me some sudafed today. Take care and thanks! Hey Adam finally gets to go back to work Feb 1! I'll miss him I know, but I'm so happy that life will get back to normal!

Ange, I hate to tell you this - but there is something going around. My Hunter - 12 yrs old had it. It just seemed like a bad cold, then he started having bad headaches and coughing really bad. The doc put him on a strong cough syrup and Amoxycilin. It took 2 1/2 weeks for him to get over it completely. The childrens Delsum cough syrup is great if she starts coughing. I hope your hubby found some good medicine for her. One thought - a sinus/cold medicine acts to dry up the sinuses - maybe that would dry her up if your medicine doesn't work. I wish you good luck and hope you and the rest of your family doesn't get it. I got it from Hunter, but the over the counter quick cold remedy - Zicam worked great for me. I felt drugged up, but I was over it in less than a week. I hope your Christmas was a merry one! - Ginger

Although I hope she's feeling better my doctor told me why HE thinks everyone is sick - he said that it has to do with the barometric pressure and the fact that it's been so warm. It messes with your sinus cavities and causes an infection. I'm on the bubblegum amoxicillan myself for it - same symptoms. Many of my students felt the same way before Christmas break. Sorry she had such a crummy Christmas!
