Update on me ;-)

Well I have been MIA quite some time now and decided to stay quiet until I felt good and strong... As many of you know I had plastic surgery on Nov 6th ...I had 3 procedures done..abdominoplasty, breast lift and hernia repair. That's alot for a one time deal!! all seemed to be doing fine until suddenly I had problems with drainage..my belly incision from the hernia repair had to opened a bit to let it drain, one thing led to another and here I sit with two decent size holes and one small one..on the inside they all tunnel into each other so of course they needed to be closed. Now let me make this clear to everyone reading this has nothing to do with my surgeon or his skills, this is just something that happens to about 20% of patients with this type of surgery. It happens and we have to deal with it. Dr. Sonnanstine kept up with me after surgery..he wanted to see the incisions and ask me if I would feel better if he looked at them...to me that was a no brainer..I jumped at it. We decided together (along with his nurse Taryn) that a wound-vac would be the best thing for me... Sooo as of yesterday I have home nursing ...It has to be changed 3 times a week but Dr. Sonnanstine wants me in his office for one of those changes. WEll, seeing our Dr. McDreamy once a week wasn't such a bad thing after all..lol Anyway, I have had so many emails and messages with people asking if I am upset or if someone made me mad...the answer is absolutely NOT....I miss coming here but truth is it was very uncomfortable for me to sit very long at the computer. I am now trying to get myself ready to go back to work, I have been off a lot longer than planned. I haven't done any Christmas shopping but finally put a tree and a few decorations up. My son in law made it home from Iraq..they are having a surprise welcome home party this Sunday and by George I intend to be there... in short I felt miserable for a few weeks, I am not use to be held down..I am so active and very involved..I didn't post this informaton before because I was afraid it would influence someone else in a bad way... These things do happen and I can assure you that if I had to do it over again ..of course I would!!! the incision giving me problems was the hernia repair..the plastic did just great...the hernia had to be fixed with or without the plastics. Just one of those things that could happen with any open surgery.. I will be back to normal very quickly..... I hope you all have a wonderful, joyful and safe holiday!!!!! Brenda

Hi Brenda so glad to hear from you. I have been chickening out about the plastics. Nothing to do with you. I am so afraid of complications. I am in a size 8 down to 149 and I have everything smashed tight with lycra. Maybe by summer I will think it over again. I am so glad you are getting better. So how are your new Boobs? Perky? Just teasing. Can't wait to see you. You have a great holiday and keep in touch. Prayers and love, Jane

Jane, think really hard about it but do a great deal of research and keep Dr. Tom in the loop. I am a true believer when your bariatric surgeon says he will be part of your life for ever, then you stay connected with him during any type of surgery. At least make him aware. I don't know what I would do without him right now. As far as complications go, don't forget what I said..the plastics went great!! I had three hernias and it took a lot of work to fix those..that's where my complication came from, I know and believe again it had nothing to do with this surgeon or the procedure..no matter the type of belly surgery I had if it had been open as this was...I would have had the exact complication. When this heals I will finally feel thin..I hope! I had a very large "apron" hanging off the front of me..with some very serious sagging..but not anymore. there is still swelling so ask me again in a couple of months what I think of the girls..LOL Thank you to everyone who emailed and replied for your well wishes I am already feeling much better..it's all up hill from here. Brenda, I'm sorry you had to go through all of that but happy that you're feeling better in time to enjoy you're son-in-law's homecoming and the holidays. You've always given such good advice to all of us, I'm glad to know that you're also taking care of yourself! God bless, Kim
