I have not had my surgery yet (lapband), but they are already teaching me about the protein needs and how important it is to get the protein in. Does anyone have a favorite protein shake, powder or food they would like to share?:help: what are some of your daily meal plans (early post-op).

Hi Sandi! I had Lap RNY two weeks ago today. I'm still on the full liquid diet and I've found that I like chocolate Unjury and strawberry Unjury. I mix 3 oz of skim milk with one scoop of either flavor Unjury to make a 4 oz. 'shake'. Its a little thicker than chocolate milk (or strawberry milk, depending on the flavor you use!) and its 23 grams of protein. I usually do 3 of those a day. I tried mixing the unflavored Unjury into soup and sugar free pudding and didn't like the consistency. So I mainly stick with the three shakes to get my protein in and then have soup or pudding made with skim milk for snacks, if I can eat that much. I've also added the protein powder to my crystal lite that goes toward my water intake. I had 32 oz of orange crystal light and added one scoop of vanilla Unjury. It wasn't too bad....made it a little creamy. However I don't do that too often anymore since I'm getting all the protein I need from the shakes and I'm really craving things that aren't creamy at all. I want plain old water!! Hope this helps! Chris

My nutritionist suggests drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast (No Sugar Added). I started drinking this before my surgery to get used to it. It is pretty good. I add 1 scoop of unflavored unjury to it with 4 ounces of milk. It tastes good to me and I tried a lot of things before surgery and none of them were good to me except this. This is the only thing that I can tolerate everyday. If you go to unjury.com you can order samples to try. The chocolate was okay mixed with milk, but I just prefer the instant breakfast flavor. Good luck with everything! Sara

The sugar free carnation is good but to get a good dose of protien I use walmarts body fortress chocolate flavored mix. It's in this huge container for like 11 dollars and tastes good. I used to use the unflavored unjury and mix it into warm things such as soups, but I couldn't handle the wierd flavor. Some people prefer the unflavored it just depends on the person. Unjury does offer sample packets on their site for 2 dollars or something like that so you can see which flavor you like best. One packet is equal to one scoop. But like I said I am really liking the walmart brand protien mix. I haven't tried the other flavors yet since I am happy with the one I have. I hope this helps you out some. Welcome to the board by the way hope ya like it here. Michelle

Like Michelle I really don't care for the unflavored Unjury. Unfavored my behind...it makes it smell weird and taste weird to me. The Chocolate is good. I also recently tried the Walmart brand "Body Fortress". It is a great value and tastes like choc milk. It is good. I also tried something called "Nectar". You can find this at www.vitalady.com I bought sample packets for 1.49 each. They have flavors like "Roadside Lemonade" - this one is my fav and if you add a packet of lemonade crystal light...it is awesome They also have "fuzzy naval", "cherry" "grape" "orange creamsicle", etc. It is nice to have something that is NOT milk based and tastes really good. They have 30+ gms of protein per serving. If you are like me and not a big fan of lots of milk...this is perfect and lots of protein. Good luck!!!

Iso Pure Whey protein chocolate goes done good and 50 grams per serving . but realize your body will only absorb 30 grams in 2 hours so drink slow or split..... What adding milk if you are loosing (due to cals) and buy small containers till ya find one ya like .....

Mike and I use the Fortress Whey Protein from Wal mart. It's only $12 for a big bottle and if you get creative with what you put in the shakes, it can be rather tasty. Another product we use is proto-diet's hot chocolate. It's really a treat and taste real good with a spoonful of peanut butter along with it. (lick spoon of PB and take a sip of hot chocolate) I have used the Unjury unflavored and will continue to in the future. It's good in soups, but that is about all I like it in. Hope that helps-- Dee
