Good afternoon, everyone! I know I didn't post much on here before surgery (darn work didn't appreciate me doing that!), but I'm finally up and around more and wanted to pop in and say hi. I had my surgery on Nov. 27, the Monday after Thanksgiving. Everything went great. Dr. Sonnanstine was awesome, but who is surprised at that?! I was hoping to go home Wednesday night from the hospital but ended up getting a fever in the middle of the night Tuesday. It was a urinary tract infection....nothing some antibiotics didn't knock out, but it meant I had to stay in the hospital until Thursday morning. Now my biggest challenge is getting in enough water. I feel like I just about get done 'eating', wait the 1/2 hour and its time to not drink a 1/2 hour before 'eating' again. I'm lucky if I get in 32 oz right now. I've actually stayed up later than I wanted to just to get in the water! But I guess if that's the biggest problem I have, then its not so bad. Hope everyone has a great day!

Congratulations on your surgery Chris, welcome to the losing side. It gets easier getting the water, proteins and vit in, you will do ok pretty soon and it wont be near as hard as right now.

Hey CHris I have been wondering about you. You are so right. All your time is spent trying to get everything in. Just do the best you can. So are you moving around good? Dr. Tom is a doll and we know he is the best. Let us know how you are doing. Jane

Hey Chris! The liquid intake does get better with time. At first it was hard on me too but after the first 4 weeks I was drinking 100 or more oz's of something sugar free a day. The first month is the hardest, hang in there and u will do fine! Hugs and congrats! Angela

Hi Chris, I had my surgery on the 27th with Dr. Sonnanstine, too! So, we were in the hospital together! How neat is that! So sorry to hear that you had to stay longer than expected but glad you are doing good now. I am having the same exact problem with the fluid intake. I feel like I am always drinking. I was a bit confused, too, because if we are on a liquid diet, isn't that stuff going right through just like the water? Oh well. Sometimes I feel like taping a straw to my face would be the easiest thing! Seriously, it is getting a little bit easier everyday. Hope you are doing okay other than that! ~Sara

Thanks, everybody, for the well wishes. Sara....how funny that we were there on the same day!! I had mine at 10am. Although I had to be there at 6:30 because I had to get a PICC line first. I'm getting a little better about the liquid. I'm up to 40oz a day. Woohoo! Although I can't get in the 3 meals/3 snacks. I'm lucky to get in 4 total. Seems so weird that I have to make myself eat even though I don't want to. It goes against everything I've been taught up to now! Well, I hope to be able to get on here more often while I'm off work. I don't go bac****il after the first of the year.
