I have the federal BCBS insurance and they have been wonderful to me. They approved my surgery pretty fast and have covered everything thus far. Good luck with everything sorry I don't know much about that Dr. you can do a search on here to get reviews of the Dr. as well as the facility.

Tony what is your actual question? Got anything specific you need to know? Read through the Summary plan description and see what is said about corrective weight solutions.

Tony, I have Anthem BCBS PPO as well and was approved by insurance. However, there are thousands of different provisions within the plans. What I mean is, there isn't a cookie cutter answer to coverage just because MY Anthem covered my surgery. Employers can also choose to have exclusions within the plans. So, it is best to call the insurance or check the member handbook for coverage. I would call the customer service phone number and ask: 1. If they cover weight loss surgery 2. What is the criteria for coverage? Don't just let them say "as long as it is medically necessary...ask them what constitues med necessary 3. Are there any exclusions in the plan? 4. What types of WLS is covered? 5. What steps do they require that you take in order to have the surgery ... ie what hoops do you have to jump through first (6 month supervised weight loss program is common). That should get ya started. It is YOUR insurance...make sure that you know it...know what it entails...you don't want to be disappointed and surprised by not checking into it first. Good luck!!

I don't know anything about your insurance but I do know about Georgetown Bariatrics. I had my surgery there 10/19/2006 by Dr.Oldham. I cannot say enough good things about Dr.Weiss and Dr.Oldham or Georgetown Hospital. I have now lost 98 pounds since rny surgery and wouldn't change a thing. They are number 1 in my book. Good luck with your surgery. I would also like to add that they have support group meetings once a month in which one of the doctor's usually attend to answer any questions. These meetings are so helpful for the patients.

My aunt had Dr Weiss and just loves him and a friend of mine is having her surgery done at Georgetown on Dec 4 I think. I have Great West insurance and don't know anything about bcbs. Have u called them to see exactly what their criteria is? That would be the best thing to do. Give them a call, ask them if they cover wls if medically necessary and what exactly their criteria is. Once u know that u can start to work on doing what u need to do to get approved. Take care!
