Hello, my name is Kimberly I am from Ashland if you all ever heard of it..its a lil whole in the map =) but I just figured I would post to see if anyone is in my area. I would love some advice from the surgery alumni =D and possibly make some friends who know what I'm going through. I have been looking into WSL for about 2 years now, I have always procrastinated bc I thought i was in control of my weight, but really all I was doing was lying to myself...so here i am at 316 =? waiting for my approval...pretty much my everything lies in the hands of a professional =D ne who im a good listener and i can talk too =D

Hi Kimberly!! Welcome to the goofiest bunch of supporters you will ever meet!!! I do know where ashland is!!! but its been a looooooong time since I have been there. I had my surgery 6 months ago. My whole world has changed since surgery. There is nothing about my decisions with surgery that I would change and I know my family would agree with that. (yes by the way most of my family has had wls and we all chat on here to our extended family... whi*****ludes everyone that posts on this board) We all have a lot in common. I wish you the best of luck with your approval and surgery!! Sarah

Hi Kim, I lurk here because I am having my surgery at KDMC even though I live across the river in WV. I'll introduce myself to you and every one else at the same time. I have been approved and my date is Dec. 14. I researched the hospitals here in Huntington but was very impressed with KDMC and Dr. Wheeler. Some people find him a little direct, but I have nothing but good things to say. I have had all my testing and have went through a six month supervised diet required by my Ins. . i have been so impressed with the Hospspital staff and the WLS staff. When I was having my testing I was walked through every procedure. I mean they would ask me if I knew where I was going and then take me where I needed to be. Hope you are approved quickly and best of luck. Back into the shadows. Don

Hiya Kim welcome to our little world. As Sarah said yes we are a goofy bunch. But we do care and are here for everyone. Good luck with everything and I hope your wait isn't very long. I myself am about 6 weeks out. It's been just awesome. If it wasn't for everyone here I would have gone crazy. lol Anyway yes I do know where Ashland is as well. Take care and remember we are here lol.

Hey Kim! I know where Ashland is. Actually I work at Ashland, Inc...but in Lex I'm 27 and I know what you are going through. I'm 5'11 and 283 and I still think I look good, but I've gotten to the point that I need WLS to help gain control. I will be having RNY next month and I'm scared to death.

at 283 i thought i looked decent too lol and I did, but I still wasnt happy. but I gained a lot of weight since then...my lowest has been 237 and i lost 86lbs from the Atkins diet, but as soon as I started eating carbs again I gained it back PLUS MORE! and I am proud of you for admitting to yourself that you wanted help controling you weight instead of letting it go like i did for myself lol... Weight loss is very hard.....a lot of the "skinny minnies" do not realize...like my mom 5ft4 123.....always told me to "lose weight kim" like it was so easy...but as i got older it has gotten so much harder...and I am glad that I have the option for WLS. I am so excited for you for your surgery date...congratulations =) I still have to do 6month medical weight loss, but time will go by quick and I will do what ever it takes=) good luck and I wish the best to you...and I will be sure to send flowers =D Kimberly

well you definately are right, a lot of support here=) I greatly apprecaite it =D. I have support from my loving boyfriend at home, but its always nice to talk to someone who has went or going through the same thing as you. It is nice to meet everyone and I hope I get to know everyone a lil bit better, I have been contemplating on posting for a few days, just been kinda shy =D I I went to my first appointment today.SOOOOO MUCH TO DO OMG. lol This is gonna be a long process, but I have a feeling it is going to be all worth it in the end. I met the staff today for Dr Tompkins and Dr Tompkins hiself and I was very impressed. I expected something a lot different. They are so friendly yet professional at the same time =D I have 4 test starting at 1pm and it's not going to end until about 6pm this coming monday =P But I am very excited that I even was considered for WLS For those *****plied that KDMC is a good hospital...I agree 100% I grew up here, and my dad has worked at KDMC for 22 years now, so I was born there, been treated there many times, had my son there....it is wonderful. fortunately i was lucky enough to where I didnt have to travel and had the help i needed right in my back yard =D. Anywho I'm a rambler if you cant tell...only thing that i am concerned with is losing my hair....I am scared to death of that.....they can cut me all they want I just dont wanna lose my hair...anyone have any success stories on that to make me feel better =P Or anything I can do to prevent it?? I would greatly appreciate it. Hope everyone is doin well tonight

I'm also considering WLS at KDMC. Went to a seminar but my insurance is not effective until January 2007 so they want to wait and schedule tests after that. Went with a friend to see Dr. Wheeler and she just finished her psych, exercise, dietician and something else this week. I'm also going to attend a seminar at Cabell Huntington, did you look into them by any chance? I've also heard good things about Dr. Neace and was wondering if you know any info about their program - I believe I'm scheduled for seminar 12/14. But I will choose between one of those 2 programs. As far as hair loss, I read on some other boards that for most people it stops around 1 year and several people take a drug maybe bioxtin or something that is close to that spelling. Keep me posted on what stage you're at through the process. If you haven't done psych there yet, I do have a heads up on some of the things to expect - or at least what my friend experienced there this week. Susan
