Hi all Is kidney stones common with bariatric surgery? If so is it with both surgerys or just one or the other? Here I am concerned with gall bladder, blood clots ect... now this too or my goodness I am freaking out here. HA-HA!!! Please let me know if anyone else has had a problem with this or not. I havent had surgery yet but have heard of another person who had kidney stones after surgery and I am just wondering if it is common. thank you mini-me

Hey Melissa, I've never heard anything about Kidney stones after surgery, it could happen I guess. I've never had a issue with it. Are u getting excited about your surgery pretty soon? Have u heard from Shirley?

Hi Melissa, I have been there with the Kidney Stones. Had them back in September and evidently they are common in WLS surgery patients. From what my Doc explained kidney stones can be made up of calcium (the most common kind) and protein. The protein stones are most common in wls patients and pregnant women (for some reason). It was not too bad and they were taken care of quickly. It was my first time having them. UGH. I am not sure what the exact statistics would be. Don't let that have an effect on your decision for surgery though! Just because a few people get them does not mean everyone will! Hope this helps!

Hey there Thank you for your words of encouragement concerning the kidney stones. I tell ya I am such a baby when it comes to pain so I will probably just croak from the surgery itself and won't have to worry about kidney stones anyway. HA-HA No really hopefully I will be one of the lucky ones that will not get them. And I hope and pray for you that you will not have anymore either. melissa
