Yes, I got approved today after a struggle with insurance. Well Humana turned me down...apparently it was an exclusion. So, I started a new job in August and I quickly picked up that insurance. I was approved on first try. Heres my prob. That insurance expires 12-31-06 since I didnt renew it. I had gave up on WLS. Well then I get the news today. I was told I can have my surgery within a matter of weeks. Ok, so since I'm a newbie employee I have some questions. I'm having the RNY and can someone maybe help me on these: 1. How long is average take off time from work for RNY? I have a desk job so maybe I can go back early. I don't qualify for medical leave. I've only been there 3 months. 2. How do I break it to my boss that I'm having surgery and I need this time off? Also, do I have to tell him it's RNY? I mean that is confidential. Right now I have EVERYTHING running through my head. I need some advice

I'll jump in on this one. My Doc said at least two weeks. I sit at a desk and don't do any heavy lifting. He said if there was heavy lifting involved it would be at least four weeks. He told me he had one guy to go back to work after a week, but he had not released him to do so. As far as work goes, there was a federal law passed a few years ago called the Family Leave Act, or some thing like that. It allows some one to take off from work for twleve weeks without pay to take care of a family member. This also covers yourself. I had Carpal Tunnel surgery last year and I signed up for extended sick leave I was due based on how long I had been with the company I work for. The HR Dept had me to fill out the the paper work for this Family Leave. I didn't think it would apply to me, but the said if something went wrong, I would have twelve weeks and my job would still be there. I am pre-op as well. I have been approved and should get my date Monday. I live in WV but I am having my WLS at King's Daughters in Ashland, Ky. I have nothing but good things to say about KDMC.
