Hi Lorrie well congrats on your decision. There are a lot of factors first off. I was on a clear liquid diet, to a full liquid diet, then pureed diet and then regular diet. Everything was outline in a book. Make sure you follow exactly what your doctor/nutritionist set for you. If you eat too fast, drink too fast, eat too much ect you will get sick. I wasn't able to eat chicken for 3 months. Just didn't feel good. I do not eat bread or rice or pasta, I don't miss it. These things make me full too fast. I eat my protein first, then my veggies. At first when you are permitted, soups with unflavored protein powder is good. I am not allowed to drink anything when I eat. This was hard to get use to but it doesn't bother me now. The pain was not that bad. I came home and used no pain medication. Walking helps. I am 13mths out and I would do it again in a heart beat. You must be compliant with the program. It has been a wonderful journey. Everyday is a new day. Everyday has a WOW moment. Good luck and let us know when you get your date. Jane

Hi Lorrie, I am one month and a few days out. It's been a crazy ride and I wasn't honeslty sure I could do it but I have thus far. I was like Jane and had a clear liquid diet then went to full liquid then pureed and then as I call it real food lol. I have dumped once thus far over a certain brand of sugar free vanilla pudding of all things. It was awful but I know not to eat that kind again. I also at the moment have developed a tolerance to any kind of artifical sweetner. So the little bit of sugar I allow myself is not even a tablespoon a week per Dr. orders. I will try to go back to it once I am out a little farther but it happens. As for pain I am a baby so I did hurt alot but I did have pain meds that helped and my heating pad was and still is my best friend. Now more so for my back that has always been goofy on me. I didn't think I would be bale to stick to my guns and follow what I am suppose to but it was easier than I thought. Everyone is different though. Good luck and remember it's not as bad as it seems no matter how you feel. That's my motto lol

No questions about it.... I would do it again. It was rough for me the first 2 weeks. I realized that I really did have a food addiction and I mourned food alot. then I started losing and feeling better and I got over my food issues. I have been very lucky... no complications or anything... I will give my wonderful doc credit for that!

I had the bypass done & I wished I'd done it years ago. I had mine done at Georgtown & the staff, hospital, Dr.s & the operation itself was excellenet. The 1st month was rough because your stomach is still new & you're testing it out. Now I've lost 90 lbs & can eat anything I want but I watch my carbs. If I eat too many sweets or drink with my meals, I'll throw up but I know what's going to happen so I try to avoid doing that. I still struggle to get all my protein in & I have gave up all carbinated drinks. I eat maybe 1/2 what I use to & I'm full. My energy is super. I'm going on a 5 mile hike Sat.................ME!!! I don't think about food that much any more. I think what I can be doing instead. I'm diabetic & had a check up & I've went from 4 meds to 1. Check out this site cause there's lots of good information.
