Discogram,Plasma Mediated Discuctomy

Shina M.D. RNY (03/24/05) Member Since: 09/01/04 [Latest Posts] Post Date: 11/8/06 2:52 pm Well not too sure what all this entails as of yet but Adam has a appt with the orthopedic surgeon next Wed Nov 15, we're told that this is fast to get him in. They just called yesterday and mentioned this procedure to us about Adams herniated disc, bulging issues, pinched nerve in his lumbar region. The chiro has helped with everything but this and his lumbar area has gotten worse. He has stopped seeing the chiro and is just doing physical therapy until we get in to see the ortho surgeon next Wed. Its called Discogram. Plasma Mediated Discuctomy. They say it differs from open back surgerys. Its kind of like a epidural, spinal tap. They use needles and small lasers. Just thought I'd update u guys and see if anyone has been thru this. The guy were seeing next week is the only one in Ky that does it. Its right down the road from my gastric bypass dr and the hospital I had surgery at so for once I know exactly where I'm going in Louisville. Thanks, I think I spelled it wrong anyways. Its discectomy, lol. I guess we'll find out more next Wed. I'm just glad that after a month of his lower back getting worse and worse he's finally getting somewhere.

Angela, I know that I've been an absentee poster, but I am always thinking of you and Adam. It seems the effect of this accident is going to be around for awhile and for that, I'm truly sorry. Mike and I are keeping you and Adam (as well as the kids) in our prayers. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. I don't know anything about this proceedure, but I'll keep Adam in my thoughts and prayers on the day of his appointment. Maybe this will be a good thing and some relief will come from it.
