Hi! I am a little over 2 weeks out from lap RNY. Last night I knew that I hadn't gotten all my protein in for the day, so I mixed a little bit of unflavored Unjury protein powder in my lowfat yogurt to eat. After the first bite I got a really sharp pain in my chest and neck..... so I just didn't eat anymore and it hurt real bad for about 10-15 minutes (I reclined back in my recliner to ease the pain). Finally, it subsided and I could drink some of my Crystal Light.... was I dumping? I haven't ever experienced anything like that before in the past two weeks. It kind of scared me! Has anyone else ever experienced anything like that?

I dont know that it is dumping... I have only dumped once and it was horrible, I broke out into a cold sweat and really wanted to hurl. Maybe you ate too fast or too big of a bite? Im not really sure on this.... I hope you are able to figure out what happened though. Also I wanted to say congrats on your surgery! Sorry i'm not much of a help Sarah

Hi Kathy, I did that once or twice early post op and I figured it was from eating too big of a bite or if I ate real fast. I does hurt badly. I've not dumped often but my defintion of dumping is, when I eat something my body doesn't like anymore. I get sick in a hurry. My tummy hurts, I get the runs, I want to puke but usually can't. I get the cold sweats too. It feels terrible. The further out u r the more u will learn about your pouch.

I didn't have any pains in my chest or neck. I would break out in a cold sweat, like I was going to pass out, & then throw up. Maybe your yogurt was too thick after you added the powder? It took me about 2 months to get to where I knew what & how much I could eat. Your stomach is changing so much that what makes you sick today will be OK the next. It's a pain but it's all so worth it!!

I agree with everyone here, it doesn't sound like dumping. I'm thinking that you probably took to big of a bite or something in the yogurt got "stuck". I had my first dump yesterday afternoon and these are the symptoms I had: cold sweat, some serious nausea, rapid heartbeat, and the urge to have the runs. (it was just terrible gas) I would say that if this continues, you might want to give your surgeon a call and make sure that it's nothing serious. Please keep us updated on your progress and welcome to the loser's side. Take care and good luck-- Dee
