New-Looking for info
Hi there everyone. I'm not sure where to even start. I've been thinking for quite a while about getting the lap band surgery done. I'm not even really sure where to start. After doing a little research, I called Norton's here in Louisville and signed up for a free seminar next week. I'm not sure what other steps, (if any), I should be taking. I'm also curious as to how it progresses after the seminar. Does anyone have any insight they'd be willing to share? I'd greatly appreciate it.
Angel,
Every surgeon, it seems, requires something different to participate in their program. I would say that going to an informational seminar is a great place to start. The next step would be to find a surgeon. This is a VERY important step! You can go to the top of this page where it says "find a surgeon" and look for doctors in your area that performs these surgeries. Then, I would look at the patient comments about them. It doesn't hurt to ask people here what they think. Beware though...everyone thinks that their doctor is the best so it may be hard to get an accurate idea of who to see. I personally wanted a doctor with alot of experience at performing the type of surgery that I wanted. Some people want doctors that perform the surgeries laproscopically vs open. It really just depends. Just do your homework!!!
Once you have picked a doctor, you will want to call their office and schedule a consultation. Make sure that you have all your questions ready. I sat down and wrote out all of my previous weight loss attempts and tried to remember approx. when and how long I stayed on a particular program. If you are taking medicines, make sure you have a list of those. You may need to see your Primary doctor to get records for previous attempts or weight related illnesses he/she has treated you with. Your surgeon should be able to tell you what you will need. Remember, they are the specialist and should have the experience to help you on this journey.
I have not had surgery yet, but I am going to have the Lap Band. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me. I will help any way I can.
Good Luck!
