What to do now?
Hi everyone i was wondering what is the first step i should take to getting Lap band done. I have found a surgeon, discussed this with my parents, but now what. And another Question is The kings daughters Medical center bariatric nursing staff really that bad? Cause i am seventeen and scared as Heck to get this surgery but even thinking about a bad nursing staff makes me even more scared.
You have taken the first step. You have discussed your thoughts and decisions with family and found a doc. The next step would be to make an appt with the doc for a consultation.
As far as that medical center goes, I dont know anything about it. Sorry I cant help you with that.
I hope this helps some. Good luck!
Where is the Kings Daughter's Medical Bariatric Center?
Well, I guess, you should probably call your regular family doctor first and meet with him (if your insurance requires a referral). Sometimes the surgeon wants a referral letter even if the insurance doesn't require it. Just call the surgeon you have found and ask them if you need a referral from your family doctor. If you do, make an appointment with your family doctor to discuss having the surgery and get them to write a referral letter and send it to the surgeon, (or deliver it to him personally -- this way you know they received it). Then, once they have the referral letter, you can make an appointment with him to discuss the surgery. Then, just do as the surgeon's office tells you to do after that.

Kristen, I have to ask this. You live in Lagrange but you are picking a doctor and facility that is on the opposite side of the state, Why? Is it because of your age? What is the minimal age to have WLS?
The car ride home would be miserable. Just using mapquest as a reference, that would be three hours in the car after you had the surgery.
When I looked up Kings daughters hospital, there were some complaints. But who doesn't have complaints, this is a me, me, ME society. If someone doesn't get there way it's time to complain. Most of the complaints seem to be the parking. Yes, there were some complaints about the nursing care but none were submitted this year. Most of the bad complaints came from twwo years ago. Maybe the hospital has followed up on the complaints and either trained/warned or just moved the offending nurses.
You could always call the hospital and ask them. Explain your concerns.
