Neurosurgeons? (long, sorry)

Once again I find myself having assumed something and finding that doing that only makes me look like a butt. Ok, I've been posting about my husband Adams bulging disc problem from our accident. Today we once again had a chiro visit, have had them everyday for the past 2 weeks almost. Now, after our chiro visit we took the preliminary mri report to our MD to look over. Adam didn't make an appt he just dropped them off. The chiro kept reassuring me today (and like a idiot I believed him) that Adams MRI wasn't too bad and that there was no reason to think he would need to be seen by a neurosurgeon. Ok, that reassured us both enough to think that we could just drop off a copy of the MRI results to our MD's office. Having done that we came home. Adam is feeling alot better today than he has been since the accident. He still has some pain, numbness, tingling but none of it is as bad. He hadn't been sleeping good and today he felt better so he took a long nap. While he was sleeping our MD's office called me and said that our MD was referring him to a neurosurgeon and that Monday morning the lady who handles referrals would be calling me with the info. Nothing else, just that he was referring him to one. Now I get to sit here all weekend and worry, not that I don't have enough to worry about. So I am going to write here what the mri report says word for word and hopefully if someone on here has been thru anything remotely like this u can let me know what your experience was. Heres what the first page says its "MRI OF THE CERVICAL SPINE WITHOUT CONTRAST" History: Neck, back and bilaterial hip pain radiating to the right leg with numbness and tingling. Left and right legs with a constant pain. Frequent urination. Pain radiates to the left arm. (keep in mind the MRI was last Friday and he was hurting worse then than now) Findings: The intervertebral disc spaces are well maintained and have normal signal. There is straightening of the normal cervical lordosis. The vertebral body alignment is otherwise anatomic. The vertebral bodies have normal signal. There is minimal degenerative hypertrophic spurring. There is minimal broad base bulging of the C5-C6 disc. The disc is not impinging upon the cord or nerve roots. The remaining intervertebral disc show no evidence of horniation or bulging. The spinal cord is normal size and has normal signal. The neural canal is normal. Impression: 1. Bulging of disc C5-C6 2. Minimal osteoarthiritis. 3. Straightening of the cervical lordosis. Now for the second page of the report "MRI OF THE LUMBAR SPINE" History same as the other. Findings: The vertebral disc spaces are well maintained and have normal signal. The vertebral body alignment is anatomic. There is a cartilagnious node involving the inferior surface of T11. The cord terminates at a normal position. There is mild central bulging of the L4-L5 and L5-S1 disc. The disc are not impinging upon the nerve roots or thecal sac. Minimal spinal stenosis at L4-L5. The remaining neural canal appears adequate. There is no neural foraminal encroachment. Impression: 1. Osteoarthritis. 2. Bulging of the L4-L5 and L5-S1 disc without nerve root impingement. 3. Minimal spinal stenosis at L4-L5. 4. Schmorls node of the inferior surface of T11. Ok, guys, anything sound like something some of u might have gone thru? Could our MD be sending him to a neurosurgeon just as a precaution to make sure he's ok? He did say to keep going to the chiro until he sees the neurosurgeon, I don't understand that at all. The chiro seems to be helping Adam cause I can tell a big difference in how he's acting now verses last week or a few days ago. I am so wired right now its not even funny. I'm going back and forth with the insurance co on my car. They totalled it, but want to pick my car up before I get my money, they say I have to return the rental before I get paid the settlement. Course all that means squat due to how worried I am about Adam now. I'm also going back and forth with the short term disability people. He's been off work almost 2 weeks and that hasn't started yet. I'm not worried about how long he has to be off cause he does get short term disability but come on, how long does it take to get started? He also will get lost wages from my insurance co. We got an attorney whose getting started on everything and they're going to help get that started. Its just been so crazy around here and I feel like I'm going nuts. If u can offer me any encouragement with this neurosurgeon business I'd appreciate it. Sorry this is so long, I needed to vent in a bad way. I need to slow down and take a deep breath. Thanks u guys for being there and listening to this crazy woman. Hugs Ange

Angela, From reading what you have wrote I would say that your PCP is just being extremely through and being sure everything is ok by sending Adam to a Neuro. If he is feeling better and not in as much pain most likely the Chiro is helping to put everything back in place as should be. As far as getting short term disability, I am not sure of KY law and his companies policy as to when that would start. We will keep you all in our prayers and thoughts. God Bless You, Michael
