It seems that ever since Iv had rny and Iv tried to drink a protein drink that it makes me sick. I cant drink ensure 1st time made me dump, so I have tried to stick to the carnation and seems that its starting to do the same. Today I only got 3 sips down and started getting sick so I stopped. What do you do when you cant handle any protein drinks?

I had a heck of a time getting my protein in just after surgery. The one thing that saved me... sprinkle protein (usually unflavored) into everything!!! put it in when you make sf jello, sf pudding, broth .. whatever you can eat... sprinkle it in everything its a big help. Up until a couple months ago I couldnt tolorate very many protein shakes... now I am able to do 1-2 a day. Congrats on being a loser!!! I wish you the best of luck on your journey Sarah Lap RNY 5/10/06 263 consult/ 180 current/ 140 goal

Amanda, I have a fear of becoming mal-nourished or dehydrated after I have surgery, so I have come up with everything I can think of to get in my protein. I have a couple of websites that offer other drinks, etc. with protein in them. Some are premixed and for some reason, sometimes they just taste better that way. Hopefully we won't have to use them for long, because they can get expensive. But to get us over the rough spots, it's worth it, I think. Health is the key here!! Do everything you can and have to do to keep healthy. LIke Sarah said, sprinkle that unflavored stuff into EVERYTHING!!! lol Here are the websites I've been looking at: http://store.bariatriceating.com/conewwhlipr.html http://www.bariatricadvantage.com/products.html There are probably many more sites, and I'm sure some of the other ladies can help with websites too!! These are just the two I am focusing on. You can also visit the nutirtion forum right here on www.obesityhelp.com. Good Luck to you. Drop me an e-mail and I would be glad to help you with food ideas. I'm so glad you are doing so well and posting. Hugs, Sharee

Are you mixing it with water or milk? I put a couple of ice cubes in mine to give it more "body". You could add more ice cubes & make it like ice cream to eat with a spoon. In the early stages it would take me most of the day to get a shake drunk. I would put it back in the fridge & go back to it. Your stomach is still new & getting use to its pouch so there will be a lot of trail & error. Protein is VERY important so drink as much as you can & when you start feeling sick, put it up for awhile. It might help if you switch flavors. Best of luck to you!!

I have found a way to make the shakes taste much better. It's like chocolate milk!! Take one scoop of Whey Protein of your choice (Chocolate flavored) Add one tsp of cocoa (baking cocoa) Add 2 packets of splenda Add water until it makes one cup consistency & Stir well Freeze in one cup container and divide into four sections. (Scoop out in 1/4 cup servings) Tastes just like chocolate fudge ice cream!!! (AND it's protein!!) You can also: Heat the above in the microwave for about 1 1/2 minutes on high. Stir out all lumps. Then Pour over ice cubes and add milk. You can sip on this throughout the day to get in protein. I have also found that you can take the Vanilla Whey Protein and make sorbet and it tastes really good. Use one scoop of Whey protein of your choice -- Vanilla Flavored Add 3/4 tsp of Crystal light drink mix (Orange, Strawberry, Raspberry, Lemonade) Add water to one cup consistency & Stir well Freeze and divide into 4 sections (Scoop out in 1/4 cup servings) Tastes just like sorbet, or sherbert!! It's really good! My 13 year old daughter even likes these. Also, if you like pickles --- just take unflavored whey protein, mix with pickle juice, and pour into ice trays, drop in tooth picks, and you have yourself a liquid pickle... lol (I haven't actually tried this yet, so I don't know the measurements. But, I'm just playing around, you can too!! lol Have fun!) I'm telling you --- I'm going to try everything!!! I'm being creative now.... wonder if it will be this easy AFTER surgery? Well, just some ideas if you want to try them...... Hugs Sharee

I just ordered a brand of protien recomended by my surgeon called UNJURY. I don't know if you have heard of it but they give refunds if you don't like the flavor which what I have tasted was great plus they offer different recipies on the site as well. I got the unflavored kind to add to everything I eat so I can get my protien in after my surgery. Here is the link to the site http://www.unjury.com/ Good luck to all
