How do you eat with or cook for family?

What changes did you have to make after RNY (or other WLS) in cooking meals for your family/kids? What are some meals you can cook and eat with your family? Do use everything that goes into the meal fat free/sugar free? What about eating out? I have a six year old and seven month old plus my husband. We don't cook every night now..we eat a lot on the go which I know will have to change post op.It seems the most afforable meals to make are more costly and we always have a strict budget on groceries.I worry about that but then again I will save money because I will be eating a lot less too!! I am not worried about what I can't eat but just about having to make two meals every time we cook or not being able to find something that won't make me dump or sick at a restaraunt.

We have always done alot of chicken... baked chicken, grilled chicken... whatever. If we go out to eat, I usually eat soup. I have never dumped from eating out... actually I have only dumped once because of my stupidity... I took a sip of my daughters juice not realizing at the time that there was 26g of sugar in it. This probably isnt much help but I hope it gives you some idea even if its small... on what we eat at my house I wish you the best of luck! Sarah Lap RNY 5/10/06 263 consult/ 183 current/ 140 GOAL

Hi Shannon, when i go out to eat with family i usually will order a bowl of soup, that from wendys even mcds has soup or chili,i also eat at apple bees and order off the weigh****cher menu, and if the family is going to a buffet i just order something of the menu to save money,i can eat chicken and just about every restaraunt has chicken. And as far as fat free i don****ch the fat as much as i do the carbs and sugar. I do cook to meals sometimes, but if i fix something that i dont like or cant have like spagetti,i will take ground turkey and cook it then add pasta sauce and then i shredd a zuccinni and have pasta that way, you will learn what you can have and what you can't. I would interduce one new food at a time so i new what made me sick if i did..........and just so you no there id 3 in my family and i spend around 70 a week on groc.....plus if we go out lol i just eat off hubbys plate and my daughter always shares lol...............you will get the hang of it!!!!! vickie
