Humana Insurance Question

Does anyone out there have Humana PPO insurance? (Especially if you are a KY State Worker!) If so, what has been your experiences with getting approved by them? I looked under the insurance forum, but many of the write ups for KY Humana are older, so I was hoping to find out what people's recent interactions had been with them. My paperwork should be submitted to them by the end of the month, but I am nervous! I really want to get approved. Thanks for the help!

What does that tell you. My Humana is through a different company. I have read both good and bad things about Humana, concerning WLS. I have experienced nothing but BAD! I will be switching INs carrier come november. I hope it is different for you. BUT WLS is an exception on Humana website.

I have UK PPO-HIGH, which is carried by Humana. My experience with them has been fine. I was approved within hours. I didn't have to do the 6-month physician diet, but I'm under the impression that Humana PPO (outside of UK, and also for state-employees) does. If you aren't on a diet, being followed by a physician, get on one now. Good luck to you and please keep us posted-- Dee

Hello, I have the state plan. You have to have a BMI of 40 or above and have one of the following sever sleep apnea, diabetes, and several other things are on the list. You also have to have been on a supervised medical diet for a full six months. So you would need to really have documentaion for 7 months.. It seems like I am missing something but that is what comes to mind.

I went to my seminar with Dr.Shina Tuesday and there was a lady there worried about Humana. Is that you? If so Hiiiii! I sit next to you and your husband! I am worried about mine too..Aetna.I hear they approve if your BMI is high and have at least one co-morb and I have two. However they usually want the six month thing too..and I KNOW I've tried to lose weight for over six months several times but not sure my doctors in the past documented well. It's rough! My doctor said she gets SOOOOO mad at the insurance companies that won't approve her patients for weight loss surgery because they are very obese but they don't have health problems YET.So she said you have to wait until they are unhealthy before they will do anything. She thinks it's so wrong! I wish you the best!!!

Hi! I have Humana, but the HMO through my employer. Mine turned out to be a direct exclusion, despite the looooong list of my problems. Humana has defined any weight loss procedure or treatment as "cosmetic". I'm changing insurance plans this fall with open enrollment. Good luck!!
