Hi Everyone! Does anyone know if there is still a support group that meets at Suburban Hospital in Louisville for bariatric surgery? Two years ago I was scheduled for a lapband and I attended a support group on a Tuesday night and it was so informative (the lapband was denied by my insurance back then), but now I am pursuing getting the lap gastric bypass, so I would love to attend another support group meeting. I cannot find one listed on-line, so I thought maybe someone could help me in my search!! Thanks!

Kathy, The support groups are still the 4th Tuesday of each month at 730pm at Suburban Hospital in Plaza III. There is an informational seminar at 600pm at the same location. This coming Tuesday the 22nd, I will be presenting the informational seminar. Norton Hospital downtown, also has regular support groups the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Norton Pavillion building on Broadway. Please call for more information. David Geller, MD 502-893-7151

Kathy, I hope to see you at the support group. I am going to the information seminar Dr. Geller is giving. I'm looking into the lapband. I read your profile. Did you decide on Bypass because insurance still will not pay???? If you see my other post you will see I'm interested in why people make the surgery choice they do. I have Multiple Sclerosis so I think for me personally Lapband makes more sense in case I would ever need to have it taken out for medical reasons. Take care and if your going let me know. I'll be the buxom bleached blonde lol. Kathy W.

Hi Kathy! You are definitely correct, I am going with the lap gastric bypass because two years ago I was denied by my insurance (Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield) of having the lapband done. The problem was that I had already gone through all the pre-testing (psychologist, dietician, cardiologist, x-rays, and lab work) and then three weeks prior to surgery they denied it!! I have done lots of research and am more confident about having the lap bypass done. I have already had my first consultation last week with Dr. Shina and am waiting for the decision of the insurance right now. I have been obese most of my 45 years and am just tired and know that most of my medical problems will disappear once I get this weight off! Yes, I do plan to be at the support group this Tuesday night (I may not make the informational meeting since I live an hour away and don't get off wor****il 5:30 pm. Anyway, hope to see you there. I have dark brown short hair and, of course, overweight! Kathy V
