Hey Mark,
I am currently going to St. Joes East for WLS. I just finished my pre-op workup this last Friday that they require.
I am doing a pre-op diet right now, (low carb--less than 30g a day) and believe my paperwork for all the tests and referals should be submitted on Wednesday. (at least I hope so)
I haven't been given the time to choose a Dr. or assigned a Dr. for that matter, as of yet. I am assuming that the surgeon is something that is given or assigned at time of insurance approval?
Have you been assigned Dr. Nighbert already or did you choose him? Have you already gone through all their tests and been approve/disapprove for surgery?
Sorry for the questions--I realize you want answers not questions.
Good luck to you--
Dee
Hi Dee,
You can request which Doctor you would like. I requested Dr. Steiner. He had done a friend of mines surgery and was so great! I have also met Dr Nighbert and he is also a wonderful man, and so funny! He is one of the docs that spoke during our seminar and someone asked a question about the elasticity of the skin etc and he answered
"Skin is very elastic, it tells us so in the bible, it says that Joseph tied his ass to a tree then walked into town, if thats not elastic then I don't know what is!"
But he was SO knowlegeable. I would go with either Steiner or NIghbert.
Yes I HAVE CHOSEN Dr. Nightbert. I would be comfortable with any three surgeons honestly. But I met him first and I really like him. At first I thought because he older and more experienced it would be an advantage for me because of my size. I wanted this done laporscopicaly to mimimize the risk and recovery time but I like them all.
I have talked to Karen several times and I know you can choose the one you want.
I hope to go next Wednesday and he tells me I am ready. I t has been a year process for me beacause of insurance reqiurements. But I am approved and had all my tests all I need is a Surgery Date I am hoping it will be within the next two weeks or before my 5 year old sons birthday September 17th as it would be the best Birthday present I could give him. That is besides lots of LOVE and SUPPORT in his life. Please feel free to E-Mail me anytime my new E-Mail address is [email protected]
I think I am going to choose Dr. Nightbert too. I read his profile here and think that he would be the better choice of the two, but still feel confident in them all. It is a well run center and they have been very thorough with making sure the patient is ready, both physically and mentally for this surgery!
Best wishes to you Mark--and feel free to email me too!
