Has anyone had lap band by Dr. Allen and Norton's Bariatrics? I'm in the process (had psych, nutrition, and nurses visit today). I see the doctor next. How was your experience? Are there any questions that you wish you wish you would have asked/or things you wish you would have known pre-op? Thanks. Karen in Owensboro

I went to Norton at first to have the band, I found out they didnt have the certificate of excellency, my insurance wouldnt let me have it there. I went to Lexington to St Joe East, Dr Nighbert. I had RNY June 6th.

Karen I had replied to your other post about Dr.Allen As for the certif. of excelleny Laura Baldwin told me they should have that completed by the end of august or Sept. I had called to ask her about someone using medicare that has been maybe two weeks ago. I can only say good things about them all.

Karen, I had RNY surgery last friday july28th. Dr tanner was my surgeron but dr allen was assisting in it. I have been home since monday and doing very well. I did have a laproscopic procedure so the pain is almost nonexistant. I go back on august 11th for my first post op visit and I am totally excited. If you have any questions that I might be able to answer email me at [email protected]

Karen, just to add to this post..I have always heard from other surgeons that Dr. Allen is one of the leading lapband docs around. He is a very good choice. Brenda

Karen, I have been through the entire process, up to actually having the surgery the following day, but was cancelled because of Insurance Guidelines. My insurance requires that the center be approved as a Center of Excellence. So, I am waiting, still. I have called several times, hoping the approval has been granted, but keep getting the same story. September 15th will be the 3 months they told me it might take. So I will call back on September 15th. You said you have met with the doctors affiliates. Now you will actually get an appointment with the doctor. Then, you will have to have all of the pre-surgery testing. Then you will see the doctor again to go over the results and confirm that you are indeed ready for surgery. Then, you will receive a call to set up a surgery date. Then, you will go to the hospital and have the pre-surgery bloodwork and attend a mandatory seminar that they want you to go to. Then, you will be put on a liquid diet and drink phosphate soda and take dulcolax the night before surgery. Then, it's the big day! (I just hope you get to go through your big day! Mine was cancelled. I had gone that very day before surgery for my bloodwork and seminar, got back home to find a message on my answering machine that it had been cancelled. Talk about an emotional ride!!! I'm having one. It has actually made me sick. I can't wait until after September 15th. I keep asking myself.... what will it be next. I just want to start my new life. Good luck to you. I know you are excited. I hope I helped you know what to look forward to next.
