Thinking about Lapband

Hi all. I'm new to the board. I have been overweight for quite a while now. I'm carrying around an extra 130 pounds or so. I weighed 274 a few weeks ago. I'm trying to diet yet again I've lost 13 pounds but I know it's just a matter of time before I lose my ability to continue the diet. I've started thinking about the lap Band. I spoke with my PCP a few days ago and she is on board with it. She suggested talking to Dr. David Geller. I would love to here from you all about the doctors you go to and how your doing.

Hi Katherine and welcome. I had laproscopic Bypass 10/17/05. I started my journey at 311. The day of my surgery I was 296 today 9 1/2 mths out I am at 163. I went from a size 28, 4x tops to a size 12-14 and medium tops. I would like to get to 156 that will give me a normal BMI. My doctor is Tom Sonnanstine, in Florence Ky. He is so wonderful. It has been the greatest experience I have ever had. Please feel free to click on to my profile. Good luck as you begin your journey. My suggestion is to read, read, read. Almost all the doctors have free seminars. I would suggest you attend as many as posible. Check into your insurance to see what they require and start the process of documentation. Good Luck Jane

Hey Katherine - I am three weeks from being banded and I love it. I am an overeater not so much a sweet eater and the band is perfect for me because it works on restriction and you are unable to eat a lot. Your weight loss is slower with the band, but I feel that it was the safest choice for me. I do advise you to read all you can and talk more with your doctor. I also want to invite you to come onto the Lap Band Forum here on OH. You will be able to see what others say about the band. The Main message board it a good place to hear more about RNY.
