I personally have never regretted my decision to have the rny. I am too impatient for the. I have heard u don't lose as fast or as much with it. My cousin had the band last yr and now wishes he had had the bypass. Which did u have, I can't remember? Hugs Ange

Could be. Good luck on your decision. I know its a hard one. I knew right off the Dr Shina was the surgeon for me and that I wanted Open RNY. U just gotta go with what u feel is right for u in your heart. I wanted to lose more than 150 pounds and was afraid I wouldn't lose even 100 with the band and I wanted to lose it fast. I lost 160 lbs in a year but whose to say I wouldn't have done that with the band, I don't. I just knew in my heart that the rny was for me. Good luck and keep me posted!

I am very satisfied with my RNY bypass..the only thing I would change is that I would have it done by a laparscopist..If I had it to do over again I would definately not have open..I have watched and studied both procedures by surgeons *****ally know laparocopic surgery, it's amazing and you can see so much better during lap. I would go to one of the best who have awesome training.. But, with open.. I have two huge hernia's that need fixed. YEAA plastics here I come..lol good luck with your decision Toni.

I had the rny & I don't regret it at all. I knew that I would find a way to "out eat" a lap band. With the bypass if you over eat, you'll either throw up or it'll come out the other end!! With the bypass too I feel like I've made a commit because of the surgery & the time I spent healing. I had heard that with lapband you don't loose as much & you can eat more things. With rny you still have to watch what you eat like pop, milk, or bread. My advise to you is read everything you can & pick the right procedure for YOU.

Toni, I know what your going through, Im doing the samething. One day I want the band and the next Im thinking I better get rny. Its so nerve racking. Im afraid Ill eat around the band or something. And then Im afraid of the complications from rny. Good luck and if you want to chat email me.

I had lapband almost 2 years ago. I now have a normal BMI. I have never regretted my decision. Deciding which surgery is a very personal decision. I can tell you why I chose the band, but that doesn't make someone elses decision to have RNY wrong. I chose the band for several reasons. I am/was a volume eater. My main problem was feeling full. I would eat and always felt like I wanted more more more. With the band, I have a very hard time overeating. If I eat too much, too fast, take bites too big, don't chew well enough then my band lets me know about it. I am still able to enjoy a wide variety of foods. I can eat almost any meat, veggie, fruit, etc. I can't eat bread or pasta very well. The difference between before band and now, I get full on much smaller portions. I eat 4-6 oz of meat, about 1/2 cup of veggies and if I still feel hungry then I can eat a little bit of something starchy. I have lost nearly 100 lbs in less than 2 years. Actually, I lost most of that the first year. The reason I didn't go with the RNY was simple. I didn't feel comfortable having my insides rerouted, risking malnutrition, being required to take vitamins for the rest of my life. With any weighloss surgery, I feel you get out of it what you put into it. It is not a magic cure. You can learn to eat around any WLS. If you go into it with the wrong mindset, it won't matter which surgery. You have to be prepared to make the changes needed to live a healthy life. Good luck with your decision.
