I am 16 months post op and yes I have one of those cards that we are supposed to be able to use at certain resturants. Today was the 2nd time I have ever used it. The first time was 2-3 months ago at KFC I was going to use it to get the buffet and just get some salad but decided at the last minute to just order a small popcorn chicken and eat a few. I wasn't even going to use the card then but they took it and gave me a discount, very nice of them. Today, however, we decided to Ryans. We used to eat there before I had surgery all the time but hadn't been since cause I can't eat much. I have an aunt and a friend who said they use their cards at Ryans so I thought what the heck, I'll try it. I go in. We get to where they ring u up. I pull out my card and very sweetly ask the young girl working if they took it and she just looked at me. Then she got all huffed up and rushed to the back to ask someone like I was a problem customer. I wasn't going to force the issue, if they had said no we don't I'd have said that is ok and waited at ate somewhere else. Then a manager lady rushed by and screamed at me back over her shoulder "What sort of card is that?" I told her she said "Whose it for?" I told her me, she looked at the cashier and said Oh alright ring her up a kids salad." What was the big deal? I've heard of several people going to Ryans and using theirs. These people made me feel terrible for even bothering to ask them. I am not ashamed that I had a gastric bypass but they made me feel terrible today. The next time my family wants to eat there I'll just sit and sip some sugar free tea or something. I am not a tight wad I just don't want to pay $6 something or more for a meal I won't even eat 3-4oz of. Ok, I will stop whinning. They just made me feel inferior. I am proud to be a gastric bypass patient, people shouldn't look down on anyone or make them feel bad cause of things. Its not nice! Hugs and afternoon all, I've got a house to clean! Anyone want to help??? Ange

i have always heard that Ryan's has a nationwide policy that they do not accept them. I have nevr used them. I don't figure they owe me anything because I elected to have this surgery. I ate at Ryan's on the way home from Florida in May and got two plates from the bar and took a little of everything. I have to say I ate more than I should but I really enjoyed it. I even had a few bites of their wonderful carrot cake and snuck the rest in my urse to eat later in the motel. oh, BTW, I didn't east two plate fulls. LOL I only ate a little of everything on my plate.

My aunt told me the one here in town won't take them anymore cause people are using fakes that haven't had surgery but next time I'm supposed to ask for a manager she knows so I can use it. Oh well. I don't eat there at all hardly so it won't matter anyway and in 16 months this is only the 2nd time I've used it. Normally where ever we eat I get what I want and bring home most of it. Ryans just won't let u do that.

Ange, I wish I had your attitude about the surgery. I don't tell anyone hardly... only my daughter, husband and the lady at the bank know about my surgery. My mother would make me feel so ashamed as well as would most of the people I know. I can just imagine the things they would say. My "friends" were very cruel in their comments and actions to me about my weight and it would probably only be worse if they knew. Since we know EVERYONE at Ryan's, I don't even try to use my card. I just don't eat there. Like you said you may do next time, I just have water while the family eats. I don't want to pay full price for a buffet that I will eat a whole dollar's worth. There is this one restaurant though, called Loudon Square, in Lexington, KY and they are so wonderful there. I get what I want on my plate and then ask for a discount telling them that this will be all I'll eat... plus I never drink soft drinks so it's always water. One time he charged me that dollar I was talking about and the next time it was $1.50. He's so sweet. He doesn't even know I had surgery, only that I won't eat more than the small amt on my plate. Too bad all the buffets aren't like that. Believe me, I understand fully not wanting to pay the high price of buffet for saucer dish of food. Gale

I know me too...My aunt emailed me earlier and said that she talked to the manager at Ryans here and they told her that they can't take them anymore because so many people are using fakes. But she knows the manager and I'm supposed to ask for this lady next time so I can use mine. Hugs Ange How are u doing from Surgery?

i love to eat at Loudon Square. The owner is sooooooooo nice. I have never asked for a discount tho. I usually just eat till I get sick. LOL. But one time I ordered a Cheeseburger Platter after seeing it on another person's plate. The few bites I could eat were heavenly. I took the rest home. Have you ever seen the size of his hamburgers? YUMMYYYYYYYYYYy

Delores, I've never seen their burgers but their meatballs are absolutely delish. We used to eat there often when the kids were small and we lived in the area. After we moved southward, we would still load the kids up and drive up there just to eat. They are a wonderful bunch. I wish Max would open one where we live. Oh wait... I'd stretch my pouch and regain my weight if there was a Loudon Square nearby. Guess he better just stick with the one restaurant. I'm doing great now with my surgery. There was a time I wasn't sure if I'd make it... but got past the weak spell and feel much stronger these days. I just today discovered (after choking on my calcium yet again) that I can chew those things up. They have NO taste to them. I tried to take 1/2 yesterday and choked badly, tried to take a tinsy piece today and choked. My dh was the "ginnea pig" and chewed one up for me (he's the one who actually suggested me chewing them up) and said they were tasteless. They do feel like you're chewing up a small rock though and have many tiny granuals in your mouth from that "rock". It's better than not getting your calcium though. I sure don't want my teeth to rot or my bones to become brittle. I've also found a protein drink I'm able to drink. I'll tell ya though, these last few days all I want to do is eat, eat, eat. I'm not hungry, just want to munch on ANYTHING! I even got the can of Beanie Weanies out and was going to eat them... THEN I read the carbs. OMG! I had NO IDEA! I put them back in the cabinet for my granddaughter. I'm down 40 pounds now from my first consult on May 24. My doc wasn't too pleased with my 15 lb loss from (somewhere around) June 16 to July 14. There were two weeks I gained and lost the same two pounds then the next two weeks, I lost 15. I've gone down 6 lbs since last Friday when I saw him. I've learned a lot about how I'm suppose to be eating on ObesityHelp. I've been sticking to eat very closely now. Although I did eat a few corners of bread to get the pill unhung from my throat when I couldn't get it back up or down today... BEFORE I found I could chew it. I'm surely pleased with my results. I hope my doc will be when I go back in September. I'm hoping to be in the 150's by then. Gale

I haven't tried using the card at any Ryans. So far in Danville I haven't had any problems. I don't think it's being a tight wad. Like you said, you're only going to eat a few oz so why pay for the full price. I think with the way I use to graze on the buffet before I deserve a discount!! I would call the manager & complain about how you were treated. By the way, YOU LOOK GREAT!!!!
