Jill, there are not that many centers that accept Kentucky medicaid, I am thinking maybe 2 ?? I do know that Dr. Sonnanstine in Florence, Ky takes it..he is an incredible surgeon with a good staff to back him up..he is very into his patients as you will see him alot during your process as he himself keeps close tabs on his patients pre and post op.. his office number is 1-859-212-4625 any problems or questions contact me [email protected]

I have ky medicaid and my surgeon is Dr Velcu at Three River Medical center in Louisa "between paintsville and Ashland". Her # is 606-638-3813 also I had been seeing Dr Neise in Huntington he also accepts ky medicaid. Im not sure what the # is but he is listed on this site . Look on the surgeons page and youll find him. Theres alot of people on here that had him for a surgeon. Good Luck.

Hi Jill My Doctor takes Ky State Medical card. I had my sugery in March of this year and I am down 67lbs feel great to say that. I am off my oxgen and a few of my meds.He works out of Nortons in Louisville Ky. You can go to his patient Forum read comments. Cause I think he is Great. Hi. I usually just lurk here and don't post much, but I, too have KY medicaid. In order to get wls with the KY medicaid you need to go thru a hospital thats is a 'Center of Excellence'. Since you live in Pikeville you might want to consider Kings Daughter's Medical Center or Our Lady Of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland or even Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington. They are all certified 'COE' and take the KY medicaid card. Whatever you choose, good luck in your journey.

Here is the response I received from Dr. Sonnanstine of .."TriState Surgical Weight Loss Center" in N. Ky.. he also stated (for future reference) they will be reviewed for the COE on Aug 29th, ... Brenda, of course you are exactly correct......right now COE ONLY dictates where a Medicare patient can receive there Bariatric Surgery -- COE (as of now, though it will probably change in the future) has no impact on KY Medicaid.........

That's weird. When I called Medicaid to find out if they cover wls they said only if I use a COE hospital. My surgeon said the same thing at a seminar. Funny how we always get different info from different sources...huh?? I don't intened to mislead or misinform. Maybe I'll do a little more research. Thanks for your info.

that's ok Angie...this is how we learn...call around and let us know what you have heard...I know for a fact Dr. Sonnanstine operates on Ky medicaid patients so he should know..I am thinking that docs who do not may have misunderstood this as well..
