Post op blues - what have I done? Please help.
Hi Pam..as everyone has said, we all went through it...I had open RNY, I can promise you I ask myself daily "what the heck did I do" I felt awful, I was in pain and weak..but I found if I got up and moved around ..took small walks outside, got out for a ride, did something I enjoyed I felt better. If you had laparoscopic bypass you should not have many restrictions. Also, don't forget you just had major surgery, anethesia, hormones, changes in sugar and other chemicals in the body can mess with you a bit too. I would suggest if this does not subside to call your surgeons office and talk with your contact there, beit a nurse or dietician, etc. This is something they deal with alot , perhaps they can give you some advice.
But please, use this board to express yourself as we have all been there, hopefully we can help you through it.
I was in a class with Dr. Sonannstine (Tri-State surgical weight loss center in Florence, KY) this evening, he talked to his patients about how emotions do affect people immediately after surgery..so again it's very common.
take care of yourself and remember, it does get better I promise!!
Brenda
Brenda, thanks for your post. You are so right. Emotions have been like a roller coaster. At the moment, I feel pretty good. I can't wait to get this drain tube out and to be able to get out and about more. I do try to walk a little a few times a day, I think that it helps. Thanks again for your encouragement.
Hey Pam,
Is everything going okay? I got my surgery packet in the mail today...what is this about giving ourselves shots???? ugh........ How long does that last? There is so much different things about this since my mom had hers in 1979. I just keep looking at the before and after photos. Thats what keeps me motivated.
Thanks
