Sleep Apnea!!

Hello my OH friends. I went Wednesday night for a sleep study and let me tell you, it was a difficult night to get through. I couldn't sleep worth a damn, my back and legs hurt so much from trying to lay flat on a bed. I have a spine injury and neuropathy, thus haven't been able to lay in a bed flat in over 3-years! Anyhoot, I didn't even make it home when I got a call from the sleep doc telling me that I needed not only a CPAP machine, but oxygen too! I couldn't believe it. This has me concerned now for my health. I sort of suspected I had sleep apnea, but maybe a milder form of it. Apparently, I have a severe case of it. I slept with the apparatus for the first time last night and I slept good, until I had to get up to use the restroom. While I slept very soundly, for a change, I still felt quite exhausted this morning and all day. Is this normal? I was thinking or under the impression that a CPAP would change all this for me. Also, will the severity of the sleep apnea keep the insurance or Dr. from approving my surgery? I really think I need surgery, especially now. Has anyone had any adverse reactions from Dr.'s or their insurances? I just need some encouraging words. Thank you to all that respond-- God bless-- Dee

hey Dee....first i am not a doc so I can't answer the sleepy part..though I would imagine your body needs to catch up with the sleep you have been missing out on, maybe it will take a few nights for you to feel rested in the morning. but the other part is this...sleep apnea though bad for your health is a great thing to help you get approved..so as far as WLS process (insurance) it's a good thing!! Thanks Brenda for your thoughts. I called my mother (RN) and she said the same thing you did. It's just my body trying to get well and that it probably take a few days to feel better. I was thinking the same thing with the insurance companies, but when it comes to big companies, I don't hold a lot of faith in them. Take care-- Dee

ahhh I am so glad it was the right answer!! lol I have a friend named Charlie who is the marketing manager for a sleep care diagnostic center here in Cincy..I email the doc there once in awhile for info..thought I might get your answer that way, lets see what he says, if his answer is different we are in trouble..LOL no diabetes and sleep apnea are two biggies to help with approval, at least that is my understanding anyway. Well, I have sleep apnea and diabetes, so I'm off to a good start? (wouldn't this be considered an oxymoron? I'm sick and off to a good start! ) I just now that physically, this surgery is something I need and I am feeling restless for this ball to roll faster. Thanks for listening-- Dee

Dee, I also have sleep aptnea and I think it helped me get approved for the surgery. I used to use a Bi Pap machine nightly and now that I have had my surgery I no longer need it to sleep. So that was a bonus.. Best of Luck Dave
