Lap Band & Lap RNY
Hi Becky..when you see Lap RNY it means the procedure was done laparoscopically- (the only way this procedure should be done in my opinion)RNY is a rerouting of the intestines that will connect to a small pouch, which is made by seperating the largest part of the stomach..
NOTE:
a nurse may read this and think I do not explain it as well, but this is my term as a patient not as a professional..so if someone wants to correct me..(Cathi Roskind) wink..lol go right ahead I will not be offended!!
I had open surgery 3 years ago...I have had wonderful luck, since then I have become a patient advocate..I am acquainted with several facilities that do primarily laparoscopic with a few exceptions, such as revisions ( redoing a prior WLS) there is no comparison in the healing time...and for those who have heard some say you can't see as well during a laparoscopic surgery ..all I can say is...I have seen both procedures, I know you can see far better during laparoscopic and can tell you there is a huge difference in healing time, infections rates-plain and simple, it's less invasive..
so the answer is, lapband and Lap RNY are two different types of surgeries.
if I can answer any of your questions about some of the centers..don't hesitate to contact me..I will be very honest with what I have heard and or seen..and may be able to help you find a facility close to home...
