self pay in Mexico?

Has anyone ever heard of a self pay lap done in Mexico or CA for about 5,000? This girl I know went and paid that much but I was wondering if any of you had heard anything about it??

Richmond? You're not far from me. I've heard of ppl going to Mexico but if you should have a problem, doctors here in the U.S. may choose not to take care of you. That's what I've read anyway. I'm going to St. Joseph East Weight Loss Center there on Richmond Rd in Lex. I paid all my fees today except the $125.00 I paid at the beginning of my journey with them. It was NOT fun handing them that much money all at once. I did make sure it was REFUNDABLE should I change my mind. LOL By the way, I've read of some cases where ppl were very satisfied with surgery in Mexico. My own personal preference though was to stay in the states with a doctor I feel I can trust and who is sklled and VERY experienced. Gale.

hey there N.M.. havn't seen you in awhile. First thing I would do is check around for an after care program that would accept you..you say here self pay lap..you mean laparoscopic or lapband?? if you are speaking of lapband then with that comes fills, you will need to find a center who will do those fills and while checking, find out what they charge...I asked around a few months ago and it seemed to me it will cost around 250.00 to have a fill...but I can't swear to that. You will probably want some place fairly reasonable and again if you do have a complication, which can happen with lapband, though rare...will they take you as a patient or would you have to fly back to Mexico? Perhaps one of the docs or nurses who post here can give you more of an insight on this. Good luck!! Brenda
