I am new to this site and have a few questions........
Hi my name is Danielle Gloster from Fort Campbell, KY. My husband is in Iraq right now and I am 23 years old and I weight 181 and I am around 4"9-5"0 somewhere I believe (been long time since I had my height checked). But I am 35.3 on the BMI scale and I have been struggling for about 3 years trying to loose weight and on top of doing so I got pregnant and now I am in the OBESE category. I have tried exerscise 3 mile aerobic workout walking ever day, 75 situps 3 times a week with eating right, then all the newest crash diets as they say, but nothing is working. My body is not responding to anything and I feel stuck! I am depressed becasue it makes me someone I don't want to be. I am always mad, sad, I am never happy and it is putting alot of stress on me and my husband because the angrier I am the more he gets stressed to where even him being half a world away I seem to stress him out and I am tired of it because we fight constantly due to my attitude and the fact I can never enjoy life or myself and I need to do something about it. I have recently had xrays done and I am awaiting an MRI appt on the 12th of June to see if I have atheritis in my knees and I told them my hips have been hurting and popping when I try to exerscise now for a while. I have had severe lower back pain for the longest although I cannot rule it is because of the extra weight but I believe it is because the more weight I gained over the years the worse it gets. And also my Asthma has increased severly along the way too. I have an appt with my DR. tomorrow night and I have no clue what to say or ask or anything in regards to getting something done about this. I guess my biggest fear is they are gonna turn me away offering no more help then I had going in! I was looking into just getting a tummy tuck but I don't think they will cover that and I am beginning to think that won't do the trick. What should I do or ask and how do I go about finding out what I qualify for and how to get it done? If anyone has answers or opinions I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks!!!:-S

Hi, Danielle.
It sounds as if you have more than enough stress in your life. It would be great to ease some of that with some weight loss.
It would seem to me your first step is to see if WLS is covered by your insurance. Some companies will cover surgery for people with 35+ BMI if there are other health problems (such as asthma, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc.). If it is, or if you would be covering the cost of surgery yourself, then start checking into surgery centers in your area. You can find them here by looking under the local resources tab.
Most WLS centers have specialists whose job it is to help you satisfy the requests of the insurers, so let them help you. Go to an informational seminar and learn as much as you can so you can make an educated decision.
I wish you the best in your search for answers.
Kathy
hello again,
Well that is why I made the appt with my clinic because with the Army I have to go threw my dr first and get a refferal to a specialist on post, then go to counseling to deem why I feel the way I do and the whole 9 yards. It seems as if it is gonna be a long road with lots of getting the run around because the ARMY gives you the run around about everything. They cover the Gastric Bypass I know definately (if the dr feels you qualify) but with the Army they give you a hard time about everything I have learned......... lol! I think at this post the only good experience I have had so far with any Dr's at the hospital was my 2nd childs birth. Everything else sucks so hopefully I will get some help tomorrow. I never have the sam Dr twice so it is a guess who I will be seeing today! That is what makes me mad I guess because if I know my Dr I would feel more comfortable but I never know who I am going to be seeing. Some are helpful where as others are get you in, get you out type of deal. And my appt is at 6:50 pm and they close at 7 or 730 so we will see how fast the Dr tries to get me out of there! I know they have weight loss counseling on post so I am sure that is where they will refer me to if they find my health problems don't qualify me for any surgery. I just have to do something because I am tired of my back hurting all the time and it is only my lower back. I am 23 and feel like I should be twice my age the way my body aches all the time including my knees and my hips. I shouldn't be that way this young lol!!! I am only about 55-60 ponds overweight but I am so short that my body fat is higher then 35 and I do have asthma, and my xrays haven't come back yet but they won't give me the results until I get the MRI done for my knees anyways to rule if it is artheritis or if my cartilage is tearing away from my bone, but still I have the same problems with my hips and it causes a problem to exerscise so I am pretty sure it is all related to my weight. Well I wsh me the best of luck too!! I am scared of what the out come is gonna be and I have never had surgery before so I am sure if I am qualified I will be terrified of what is gonna happenif I need to get it being people die and stuff. I can only keep praying for God to heko me make the right decisions! Thanks!!!!!!!!! Danielle
