Last tests before surgery...

Yep, that's right. I got them over with today. OH MY GOODNESS!!! I LOVED getting that EDG (or was it EGD?). We were cutting up in the big, open room where they put the IV in. I just had blood drawn, FIVE vials of it, Tuesday morning and was NOT anxious to get my arm stuck again. The nurse had my vein ready and had the needle in her hand and my arm in hers and I suddenly just put my hand around her arm, gently of course, and said, "I'm not ready". I've NEVER done that before. My hands were sweating and I was a nervous wreck. She waited and was SO nice and patient with me. I apologized and told her to go ahead. She did and it was like any other IV I'd had. Well, we all cut up a little more. You see, my dh had an endoscopy (sp) several years ago and has been telling me how horrible it was going to be. I saw them coming after me and nearly PANICKED! I told my dh to kiss me bye and he just sat there, told him kiss me again and he started toward me and I grabbed his shirt... LOL and pulled him to me and kissed him bye and they took me back. THEN... they put that thing on my finger and all of a sudden I felt dizzy in my eyes. I told the nurse I felt funny and she asked if they'd started my "sedation" yet. (this was after they told me what was going to happen and we chatted a bit of course). They said yea, she told me and then I was just giggly and talky and all that. I told the doctor to "Take good care of me" . I remember him saying he would and thinking I was NOT going to fall asleep because this was feeling TOO GOOD! Next thing I know they were waking me in the recovery room. I'd do that again ANY DAY! The doctor came in recovery and asked if I take Asprin. I told him that I did but quit when I found out I wouldn't be able to with this surgery. He said the liining of my stomach was inflamed a little and he also said he took a biopsy. Is it normal for them to take a biopsy? I'm HOPING that was to check for the bacteria (I think that's what they were looking for). So anyway, I'm not nearly as nervous about the surgery after having seen the nutrition seminar as I can eat "mechanically softened" foods when it's time for pureed. THAT made me happy. AND! I saw a woman there who was TEN DAYS OUT and she was doing WONDERFULLY! AND there was a man there who said his wife was five weeks out and lost 50 pounds already and is having NO problems whatsoever. Can I EVEN tell you all how relieved I was to hear and see all I did today? Nine days and it's MY turn! Okay, that made me a little nervous. LOL Gale

Deb, I went to my very first Weight Loss Seminar on May 8 this year. I am a self-pay though. I don't have insurance. That in itself is a scary issue for me because of possible complications. I've prayed about the surgery and asked God to be with me. All I can do now is trust in Him to bring me through it and the surgeon to do what he can to perform his job. I am very excited but a little apprehensive at the same time. I hope your insurance company approves you right off. I've read where many were approved with the first letter. Believe me, when the time gets closer, you'll have a little case of nerves and might even be glad it is a "few days away". Then again, you might wi**** was TODAY! I'm okay with waiting til the 9th of June. That will be a total of one month and one day for me from start to surgery. WOW... THAT IS FAST! I hadn't put it down before. lol Best of luck to you. I'm sure your insurance company will approve you. If they don't the first time, don't give up. Send a letter and another and make phone calls. Do whatever you can do to get them to say yes. There may even be others here who could give suggestions if it comes to that. Our new lives await. Gale
