Help!! Can't eat
I am three weeks post op and feel good for the most part. For the past week, I have been very nausea and have not been able to eat anything. The sight and smell of food makes me sick. People tell me I need to eat, but I just can't. I have had a couple of teaspoons of sf pudding. Has anyone else had this experience? Any words of wisdom will be appreciated. I know when I go to see Dr. Gellar he is not going to be happy, but I just can't seem to eat anything.
Hi there, I would say (i haven't had surgery yet) that it is your body getting used to eating again. like if i go longer than i should (get too hungry) without eating, i get this sick feeling that nothing sounds good, and i am afraid no matter what i eat at that point, i will be sick! maybe that is it, since surgery (the day of and even pre-op diet) leaves you empty anyway?! maybe... that is my wild guess! hope that helps!
also, i am going to meet Dr. Gellar next week sometime, I hope to anyway, and I would love to e-mail you about your experience if you wouldn't mind.

PS. if you are still feeling like you can't eat, CALL YOUR DOCTOR!

Ana, I have NOT had the surgery yet and really have no idea what it might be but I saw a special some time ago of a woman who had Gastric Bypass and wasn't eating either. She became VERY ill as a result. Have you contacted your doctor? If everything is making you feel physically ill and it's not just you not feeling hungry or thinking you'll not eat to lose faster, then there might be something else going on... might not, but I would at the very least talk to my doctor about it just in case. Are you taking vitamins yet? I don't know how all this works yet and wish I could be of more help to you. Please contact your doctor and just tell them what's going on.

Sounds like a normal post-op bypass to me! I'm 3 years post-op and can remember eating 2-3 tablespoons of food per day for about 2 months! I drank a lot of protein drinks/shakes during that time which saved me I'm sure. Some patients are more prone to nausea and not wanting to eat than others...it's so individual. Stay well hydrated and get in some good quality protein shakes and keep trying even if it is SF pudding for now.
Try some other soft foods like yogurt, cottage cheese with soft pears or peaches, low fat creamed based soups...if your surgeon allows you to have them at this time. You may be one of those who needs phenergan for a bit to get you over the hump...so to speak. Talk to your surgeon and or dietician so they can help you.
