Topic: Therapist

I have been steadily working, paying off bills, researching, attending seminars, preparing for lap-band surgery. I know that this will only be a tool to help me achieve results with my own hard work and dedication. In addition to improving the health of my body, I really want to improve the health of my mind. Obviously I have had a negative relationship with food that extends past plain bad habits and I'd like to work on that. I feel like I'm a fairly un-troubled person besides the weight issues but my family did have a lot of problems in the past. I'd like to find a Therapist within the general Kansas City vicinity that would help me deal with weight-loss, food relationship, bad habits, and past family issues. I did try to go to a therapist once, just by picking out a random person. That didn't suit me well. I'm wondering if there is anyone that knows of an excellent therapist? I really want someone who is extremely intelligent, willing to both challenge me and not judge me harshly.

Thanks for taking the time to give our input! :-)

Hi there neighbors, just checking in on your board (and I used to live in Wichita).  The best thing about moving up here to nowhere nebraska is that there aren't very many resteraunts.  I used to eat at Fat Ernies all the time in wichita lol, the name says it all.  Good luck with the surgeries ladies!

My insurance won't pay so I am financing mine and my daughter's surgeries.  It is very expensive but I decided it is well worth it to give both of us better health.  Hang in there.  If you can get it paid then the wait will be worth it.   Kim

Topic: RE: Self Pay
If you are looking to self pay, you may want to consider going to Mexico or other countries to have the surgery. I heavily researched mine and spoke to 3 local doctors before making my decision. I had Gastric Bypass Surgery on 6/5/08 in Mexico and paid $11,900 via Healthbase.com. You can also check out PlanetHospital.com. The lapband was going to cost around $9500. Not only is it cheaper, but these countries have been doing the surgeries for years longer than the doctors here in the US.

I did try the approval process and was told the same thing even though I had been on Jenny Craig and worked with a personal trainer twice a week in 2007. Because these events were not doctor supervised, I was told I needed to do a supervised diet for 6 months. I opted to self pay and go to Mexico to have the procedure done. I saved several thousand dollars and am very pleased so far!!

Hi,  I am in Andover and getting ready to have VSG surgery in July.  I am getting my surgery done in OK as they are not currently doing VSG in Wichita.  I was hoping to find some local support also, so I hope to hear from other Wichita people. Kim

Are there any other DSers around Wichita? Does anyone know of a support group and a nutritionist who know about DS? I'd appreciate any information, thanks!

John, I was hoping the Kansas boards would be more active as well. I am having surgery July 14 and was hoping to have the boards as support and to pay it forward to others. Wishing your wife the best of luck with a text book surgery and speedy recovery.
