My former neighbor was one of the first to have RNY at Wesley.  She did fine.  She will be 2 years out this August.

Topic: Kansas City Support Group???????

Does anyone know of a support group meeting in the Kansas City area?  I have been attending the one that we had in Lee's Summit, but I am afraid that because of lack of attendance that we may be canceling it in the very near future. I can not do this alone. These past 3 months I have been staying at the same weight and can't move it anything but up a few pounds and right back down. Please help me people. I have lost over 160 pounds and do not want to go back up. I NEED YOUR HELP!

Thanks, Thelma (mrsvegg)

Just wondering if anyone has had their surgery at Wesley and not ViaChristi.
My insurance covers only Wesley, and according to them, Dr. Dort has privileges there. However, since Solutions for Life (where I have completed my 3 month multi-disciplinary program) is with Via Christi, they are saying I have to have it there. I am not sure what to do now. Any ideas?

I haven't been on much in the past few months.  I guess because everything is going good for me and have less time in the summer to do computer work.  I do think now and then that when things are going well it is as important to get on to lend support to others.  I haven't even updated my wt loss on here so need to do that.  This is how my experience is going so far.  Since my band Dec. 3 of 07 I am down to 176 as of this past Tues.  Yea.  I remember when i was so excited to think I would hit the under 200 mark and quickly I have gone much more.  I have to say it feels like a miracle that I had alway wished for.  I had alway said,  if I could just wake up and have lost at least 30 lbs I could keep going.  as we all know it is so hard to stick to diets.  I actually feel, because it has been so easy (so far).  I really don't feel deprived, have eaten things I want, in moderation and small amounts. I have 4 fills.  The end of May I had 1/2 cc as I hadn't lost but 2 lbs for over a month.  I don't know that I noticed much difference in my eating.  I don't eat bread, etc but the few times I had a slice of pizza, pan style I had no trouble gettiing the crust down.  I think mainly I was limiting my eating because I wanted to not my band stopping me.  I never really felt full but didn't feel hungry either.  This past Tues I went back and they put in another 1/2 cc.  So far I have felt full, can't eat much at one time but still can drink and eat ok.  It is just wonderful thought to know that the band is there and working.  I really feel confident that I will continue to loose.  sometimes I go past a mirror and have to stop and look at me.  It is so good. I sure feel better and have so much more energy.  I would be happy to visit with anyone .  It has been such a blessing.

You should check with Dr. K @ MISH in Lenexa. About a month ago when I was in there for my monthly checkup  I overheard them tell someone they are appoved for Medicare but were only waiting on getting a billing number. It might worth it to check them out.

Thanks John, Maybe I'll try to make it this weekend.  I've gone to a few Tuesday night meetings, but haven't ever ventured into the Saturday ones.  I may just go this weekend.  Maybe I'll see you at the August meeting.  Tell Christine I'm rooting for her.  It is good to know people who are farther out and still so successful.  I am so petrified of gaining my weight back.  Dr. Dunshee assured me that as long as I keep following those basic rules that I shouldn't gain more than about 10 pounds which is normal.  Take care! I found out the other day that my insurance has an exclusion policy on all bariatric surgery for any reason. So I was wondering if you guys could tell me what insurance (and type of policy) you guys have that cover bariatric surgery, specifically the DS. I would greatly appreciate it! -Gwen

Jo, Add my two thumbs up to Lena's for Doc Steward. My wife and I had our RNY's with him, and I'm confident that you would certainly be in good hands with him. John

I haven't heard the latest on that, but if you hold out, you will be very happy with Tallgrass. They are truly a top quality group to be working with. Keep your chin up as it will be worth the wait. I lost about 40 pounds before I had the surgery and I don't regret that early loss one bit. It is tough to lose more now. Please don't lose hope...in time it will happen if it is meant to. John

Hi Laura, I've been checking your progress from time to time and so glad to hear that things are heading your way. Keep up the great work. We are getting a pretty good turnout at the support group for Tallgrass on the second Saturday of the month. Please drop by and join us if you get a chance. Christine and I will not be at the July meeting, but will plan to be at the August date. Christine is almost 3 weeks out and I'm over a year out already. The losses have slowed for me, but I'm happy to be in the normal weight range. Again, congrats to you. John
