Hi Bev, it's probably due to the fact that your surgery was done somewhere else vs through them....otherwise it would be free to you.

Yes, if you take in your EOB and check from your insurance (guessing you're with BCBS) Via Christi will write off the penalty.  Call someone in their Patient Finance Department to find out the specifics ahead of time....it may be a wash for you end.  Patient Finance can be reached @ 268-5779.  Good luck!

Oh wow...that's not right.  I'm sorry to hear this.  Stand your ground.  What insurance do you have?  They can't force you to go outside of your network.

I have been going to the Via Christi program at Solutions for Life. But I know that their are many local people who would like to have another option. I would attend a program that was not with Via Christi if one was availible.

Why don't we start one? If you would be interested let me know, I would prefer to meet bi-weekly during the week at say 6:00 pm. Let me know what you all think, let's do this.

There have been several local people who have had their RNY done at Wesley. Because of the deal Solutions for life has with the local Doc's I don't think they will do the surgery at Wesley. Both of the local surgeons practice at both Wesley and Via Christi, but they only do the RNY at Via Christi. You need to contact one of the girls at Solutions for Life and have them find out how Via Christi will handle you insurance because it will be out of network. I believe that they will make you a deal, and only charge you the in network costs, but I am not sure. I know that this can be done.

Gwen,
All individual and small group policies in Kansas exclude it from coverage. To my knowledge (I am an Insurance Broker) the only plans that have it included will be for employers with over 100 employees and then it is on a case by case basis.

Sorry this is a little off the subject here but I just moved to Wichita in May and I saw your post and I had my surgery done in Sedalia MO and I am looking for a support group here in Wichita but I did check out the one at Via Christi and they want like$800 to join and I just don't want to pay that in KC I didn't have to pay to go to a support group are there any here that you don't have to pay to go to?

Good luck with your surgery!  I read the posts more than I post.  I have my second band fill on Wednesday.  I am hoping to start seeing more weight loss than I have so far.  I know the first fill wasn't much, but I thought I would have dropped more weight than a pound....story of my life

If anyone has suggestions, words of wisdom, etc....please share!  I am in Olathe and do attend the support and nutrition classes offered once a month.

Good luck to all!!

Cindy
