I'd love to find a support group in the Johnson County area.  I haven't had surgery yet, but hopefully will in September if approval goes as planned.

I had lap band at tall grass last Dec.   I am so happy with everything there and am doing great.  I have had my ups and downs,  Right now I am into my down as I want to eat. all the junk stuff.  ha ha not really but I know that i can eat some of the things I love but get right back on my good eating.  I have always thought that I was lucky I didn't go ahead with the RYN like I had origainally planned.  I think I would have really struggled with the RYN, knowing I could go back, couldn't have sweets if I wanted, etc. etc.  Now I think it is the right thing for some.  I am just glad I really researched more than I thought I needed before making my decision.  As I look back now the time has gone quickly, and yes,  rather painlessly.  I think it is because I really haven't felt deprived.  It has been a very do able thing for me.

Good luck in your decision.

I also loved Tallgrass.  They are great.

Kim,

You will do great! Soon you will be feeling so much better as you lose the weight and start your life as a healthier person. I will be two weeks out on Monday, and I am already thrilled with my surgery. You're in my thoughts and I'm here if you need me!

Well my surgery is over and it went very smooth.  I loved the hospital and my experience was very positive.  Now I'm just trying to get through the liquid phase (yuk).  I did have to go in for fluids yesterday because I got too dehydrated and today I feel 100% better.  Make sure you drink all your liquids folks or you will definitely get very sick.

Counting the days until Mushies - 4 days

Well, I sent my completed packet back to Tallgrass with the referral from my PCP, scheduled my psych eval, ordered the book...can't get anything definite from the insurance though.  They want to talk to the surgeon, surgeon won't contact them until I have my psych eval...'round and 'round we go:-)  I had a sleep study in 2004, do you think they'll have me do another one?  I'm glad to hear things are moving along for you...I wish you the best :-)

I didn't know they did the DS at Tallgrass.  Jazzigirl suggested that I look into DS, so I went to duodenalswitch.com & checked that out...I thought I was pretty much set on the RNY, but now I think maybe the DS is better.  I wonder if my insurance would cover it...they go by the Medicare guidelines which I finally found out were: 1) BMI at least 35; 2) at least one co-morbid condition; 3) previous medical attempts to lose weight (they're kinda vague on that one); and 4) surgery has to be done at an approved facility.

I am only experienced with Tallgrass as preop, non approved at this point.  I have been satisfied with the group so far.  I have even thrown them a curve ball.  First I thought I wanted banded or RNY.  Those were the surgeries discussed during my initial consult with the surgeon.  Why researching I discovered the DS.  I want the DS due to my comorbidities.  I let the office know. The surgeons discussed it, really thought about it, now I have a surgery consult to prepare for the DS.

I don't have Medicare, I was self pay. I had my lap band surgery on June 17th. So far I have been very pleased with the treatment that I have gotten. I don't know about follow up care yet, I go in for my first fill next week. Good luck in your journey!!

Before making the final decision on your surgery, I would like to recommend that you research the DS and the sleeve. They are options I was original unaware of and they offer some unique differences to the band and rny. I am not saying they are better! Just they are different and for me the DS was better. It won't be the choice of everyone, but if you learn about the other options, then your choice of surgery will truly be informed and you will know you've chosen the one best for you. My daughter and I just had our DSes on the 14th and couldn't be happier! Good luck and I am sure you will find the best surgery for you!
