I was going to go to Junction City for the lapband, before I decided I was going to go with VSG.

It is scary.  I had gastric bypass surgery about 3 years ago in Junction City.  Geary County hospital has a program that I would recommend.  I am very pleased with my experience and when I started I was about your weight.  Good luck!

Topic: Hi...looking for support and advice
I have been a member for awhile and debated off and on. I live in Salina and I am seriously considering lap band surgery. I weigh about 315 pounds and I am miserable. I want to have more energy and be able to play with my children and I want to see them grow up and get married and be able to play with my future grandchildren. I don't even know where to start on this journey. There isn't anyone in Salina that performs this type of surgery and I don't know where to go or even what I need to do at this point. I'm scared as well. I know it would be better for my family if I lost weight but I am scared that something will go wrong and I will leave my family without me. Anyone out there that can offer some advice?

All these posts are pretty old, so I don't know what happened to everyone.  I had my surgery w/Dr Bernita Bernsten of Tallgrass in Topeka.  I am very pleased w/the results and the aftercare as well.  As I posted just a minute ago, I am 1 year out and have lost 116 lbs.  My primary care doctor made it a point to say that I should find a surgeon that is on the national lists of surgeons who meet the standard of excellence in their field.  Mine does as does most of the surgeons listed at Tallgrass in Topeka.

I had my 1 yr anniversary on June 3 and saw my surgeon yesterday.  I have lost 116 lbs and am feeling great.  All my "numbers" were good w/Dr. Bernsten at Tallgrass.  I want to get down another 40 lbs, so I still need support.  Are any of you in the Marysville area?  Our support groups are all about an hour away, so 3 of us have been getting together once a month.  I just want to say I feel my surgery was totally worth it; if you are having trouble and need support, let me know.

Topic: OT - "Super" Plus Size Clothes Desperately Needed in Joplin, MO
Hi~

I work in Joplin, MO and live about 5 miles south of the city (so I'm okay!), but due to the #F-5 tornado hitting a densely populated area, there's tremendous need for all kinds of things.

There's been a call out for "super" plus size clothes that are desperately needed by a small handful of individuals who are pretty much wearing the same clothes they had on Sunday.

In general, there's a HUGE amount of clothes that have been donated, but NOT really large-sized clothing pieces.

This one family is obese AND tall - some of the men are in the 7' tall range.  There are 3  men and 1 woman.  They need:

MEN:
Shirts:  5XTall
Pants:  54" X 38"
             44" x 36"
             34" x 38"
Shoes:  size 13 AND 16

WOMEN:
Shirts:  4X
Pants: 28 Long if possible
Shoes size 10

There's a local radio "news talk" station that has been taking calls about all manner of things to pair up those who are missing, offer services/ products from businesses, & announce needed services/ items & this was one of them.  The announcers stressed 3 times that this family was in dire need of clothing.  I'm sure they're not the only one, Missouri, I believe, is in the top 5 US states for rates of obesity.

I got the contact information for the family and am going to gather the donations & either drop them off or one of the family members whom I spoke to just now will pick them up.  The family lived in one of the apt buildings that was completely destroyed.  They literally have nothing left.

If you can help, please either reply here or send me a PM and I will send you my personal info.

Thanks, peeps!
Lisa
