Topic: VSG surgery tomorrow 7 a.m.
Dear Ones, I wanted to touch base with each of you one last time, before surgery at 7 a.m. tomorrow. I am confident that "He who has begun a good work in [me] will carry it on to completion" (Phil. 1:6). I am not afraid, in the least, and oh, how I've been feeling the Lord's presence with me today. I feel your prayers, too, and how precious they (and you) are to me. While I'm in the hands of a top weight-loss surgery surgeon, I am, most definitely, in God's Hands. I know that He is doing a miracle work here. There is a song I'd like to share with you. Now, for those of you who do not care for the more "rock"-sounding instrumentation, I will warn you that this song uses that, but the words are what I'd like for you to focus on, please. It's called "Miracle Maker." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EahkItdu9Y8&feature=related Thank you for all your prayers for me. If you think of me tomorrow and for the next few days, I cherish your prayers. Blessings & Love to All, Lou Ann

Topic: RE: 4 days post-op epiglottis is huge! gagging all the time
Sorry, it's not the epiglottis, it's the uvula that's the problem.  That's the little thingy hanging down in the back of one's throat.  I posted this on the main RNY forum as well, but no one else has had this problem.

Topic: 4 days post-op epiglottis is huge! gagging all the time

Had RNY laproscopically on tuesday 11/11/08.  While my mouth & throat were really dry after surgery, I made it through that time with nothing but some cinnamon toothpics.  Leak tests on wednesday were fine, so I got to start sipping water Wed late morning - halelujiah!

I knew the back of my throat was really irritated but figured that would get better as I was able to get some moisture back there.  Not so.  It feels like my epiglottis (sp) (that thing that dangles down in the back of your throat) feels like it's twice as long as it should be and I have the gagging reflex like constantly.  I can cough and flop it up on my tongue which is really gross.

I understand there were tubes down my throat during surgery - one must have caught the epiglottis and stretched it or something - HA!  And there's probably nothing the Drs. can do about it - that's not what I'm looking for.  I'm just wondering if anyone else had the same thing happen and how long it took for that little appendage to go back to normal and stop making me gag all the time.  I want to know there's light at the end of the tunnel and have some idea of how long it might take to get here.

Am doing pretty good in every other respect.  Still sore, coughing hurts, liquid Lortab tastes bad but I choke ('er gag) it down when I have to, getting my daily water intake in.  So everything else is tolerable except this throat deal.  Kinda wasn't expecting this.  Would love to hear if anyone else has some insight on this.

Thanks!
Dena

Hi...can you tell me anything about the branch in Wichita? How long they have been doing Lap-Bands, where the actual procedure is done and so on? Any information would be greatly appreciated as I have not come across anyone in the message boards that has gone there. Hmm.

Hello...anyone out there that has had a lap band surgery with them? Are the surgeries done there, or at a local hospital? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Just saw your reply. I wonder if there are many RNYers (and others) who are lax in taking their vitamins and supplements? It's scary.
How are you doing, since your surgery? Any regrets?
Blessings,
Mary

Just saw your reply to my posting the message from the Main Board, about the gal with extreme vitamin deficiencies. I wonder how she's doing? Anyway, I, like you, will remember her experience, when I'm tempted to not take supplements. In fact, I've been taking bariatric vitamins and supplements pre-surgery, just to build up my body for the surgery, hopefully.
Blessings
