Topic: WICHITA SUPPOURT GROUP?
I am REALLY needing to hang out with others who are or who have already had WLS!
I'm on the east side of town, but will travel! I am having WLS on Jan 19Th in Junction City. They have monthly meetings but I have had to work and have missed them
Anyone who would like to get together PLEASE let me know.
We can meet anywhere. (maybe even my house?)
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Weight Loss Surgical Center's new Topeka clinic
Our Wichita clinic is one of our busiest branches, and it has a great patient support system. Lou is our PRN there, and from what I've seen the patients really appreciate her. She's very knowledgeable and great at helping patients find the right fill level for them so that they can lose weight and get healthy.
Also, the patients have a really good support group that meets once a month. It's our busiest and most active local support group, and we really believe that helps to get the most of your band experience.
The surgeries are done at our specialty bariatric surgery facility in Overland Park, Kan. It's a one-time trip that people make from all over the Midwest, because we have five great surgeons who specialize in gastric band surgery, and all of the surgeons are sensitive to the procedures and concerns involved with bariatric surgery.
Just like the clinics, all of the equipment at the surgery facility -- from scales to exam tables and lobby furniture to toilets -- is bariatric rated for your comfort and safety.
We have an online lap-band seminar, and we also have an online lap-band support group, so you can learn more and chat with current patients about your questions or concerns.
Good luck!

Topic: RE: 4 days post-op epiglottis is huge! gagging all the time
Thanks so much, Mary. I have my one-week followup appt with my surgeon on Monday 11/17/08, so I'll get to ask him about it then. The alergic reaction thing is a very good point - I've had lots of new meds from pain things, to anti-nausea meds, etc. Will definitely post after I see him.
Thanks again!
Dena

Adding a PS to my reply:
I was given a benydryl shot in the ER, then continued with Benydryl at home, which may be why the uvula shrank so quickly.

Hi.
I'd encourage you to post this on the Lap Band forum, too, as there is more traffic there. Good luck on your journey.
Blessings,
Mary

Hi, Dena.
That is your uvula, and it may be an allergic reaction to something you're taking. I had the same thing happen to me (not related to WLS, though). Although my incident was more related to nasal drainage, I was put on Benydryl and the uvula shrank back within 24 hours. Call your doctor to see if you can take liquid Benydryl. I was so concerned and every time I swallowed, I "swallowed" my uvula, then I'd have to cough it back up. It was horrible. The ER doctor had never seen anything like it. I was at the point that I would have given her permission to cut it out, literally! Until you can get your doctor, ice water will feel good.
Good luck, and keep us updated, please.
Blessings & Prayers,
Mary
